To think this was cruel

I work in a nursery and DC was very emotional today, tired, needing comfort. They were asking several times for their comforter and dummy. They are 2. At first, cuddles and distraction was offered but DC just wanted their things so got them for them and gave them a cuddle to help as I will always do this if the child wants comforting. A little while later, without saying anything, a colleague quickly and abrupty, came up to the DC and snatched the dummy out of their mouth and walked off with it in a huff. DC then came crying to me saying the dummy had been snatched out their mouth. I found this really cruel and I keep noticing things like this from this colleague

Yes. Cruel and nasty.
Are the managers aware?

RatalieTatalie · 10/01/2025 23:57

Of course you’re not unreasonable to think snatching a dummy from a child’s mouth is cruel

Dramatic · 10/01/2025 23:58

Having worked in a nursery there are ways and means of trying to get a dummy off a child without snatching it out of their mouth, yanbu

Very cruel.
Can you report this to your manager and the other things you have noticed from this colleague.
This is vulnerable toddler that is not being treated with kindness. I would have said something at the time away from the children.

The worst part is, this is the room leader and she has worked there quite a few years, but I am noticing a pattern now with things I am noticing

Yanbu!

savuni27 · 11/01/2025 00:29

Sounds cruel to me! I would be reporting this. If this was happening to my child I would be absolutely fuming.

Please report. Parents are paying a lot for this service and most have no choice but to return to work and would rather be home looking after their child themselves. The staff is cruel.
