Every single one I own will start to chip in a day or two! So if anyone can recommend anything a bit more long lasting that would be great. Thank you so much! 😊

I like Nails Inc

FTHC · 08/01/2025 20:44

the only thing that works for me is builder gel & gel polish, I've given up on doing my own nails.

Olinguita · 08/01/2025 20:45

Essie

Ilovethatbear · 08/01/2025 20:46

It’s spenny, but I have never found better than Dior.

Littlemisscapable · 08/01/2025 20:46

Essie is the best but getting your nails done with gelish etc is so much better. Lasts nearly 3 weeks.

Jewelanemone · 08/01/2025 20:48

Buy a good topcoat. Seche Vite stops mine chipping (I use Nails Inc and Essie polish). You can get it on Amazon.

booisbooming · 08/01/2025 20:48

The actual coloured varnish is not the most important thing. The main thing is you need to sandwich the polish between a good base coat and a top coat. I like Essie for both of these. Sally Hansen top coats are OK too. Or one called Seche Vite (very chemical-y though!) If you do that, most polishes will probably work OK.

You also need to file any flaky or ragged bits off your nails before painting them. If you’ve got any uneven bits, moisture will get under the polish when you wash your hands and make them chip.

Lottapianos · 08/01/2025 20:49

Barry M or Essie are great. You need a base coat (any one) and a top coat - I like Essie Speed Setter

LittleRedRidingHoody · 08/01/2025 20:50

Another vote for Essie. It looks nicer and stays on longer (IMO) than others. I also like that if I need to go over a chip/scratch you really can't tell the difference.

PonyPatter44 · 08/01/2025 20:51

I have gels now and they last 3/4 weeks perfectly. I used OPI and Essie polish before and it lasted really well. I also used Barry M nail paint which is very chip resistant and Chanel polish, which is the ONLY big name I would bother with. All the others chip within days.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/01/2025 20:53

Thank you everyone!
Essie is actually one of the ones that I’ve got that chips! Which is disappointing cos I think it’s quite expensive. I will look into this seche vita topcoat…

Never found one hence builder gel nails.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/01/2025 20:59

With gels nails I’d need to get a lamp wouldn’t I. If I’m not getting them done professionally.

I've found all my nail polishes perform best with a good base and top coat.
Orly has a 'grippy' base coat, i think it's called rubberised or something, it has that kind of texture and i think the nail polish adheres to it really well.

My longest lasting combo so far is the Orly base, then OPI nail envy (the coloured polish ones they have now) followed by rimmel quick dry top coat.

Think I can do better for the top coat (preferred Sally Hanson insta-dri) but will use this one up.

All working really well together to give me my longest lasting at home manicure yet. Nails are so strong now too.

JustWhatIAlwaysWanted · 08/01/2025 21:01

Barry M. Honestly, it lasts really well and is inexpensive. Top coat also helps.

Merrilydancing · 08/01/2025 21:34

Barry M with Sally Hanson top coat, lasts for ages.

EnoughNow2023 · 08/01/2025 21:38

Does it have to be polish. I've just started using powder dips and I'm getting a good 2 weeks. My nails are longer than they have ever been. It does take time (90-120) mins but I've been really impressed. I got sassy saints kit

GellerYeller · 08/01/2025 21:39

Essie. Trim and file every time you repaint. Barry M also are good but less pigmented so sometimes need more coats. I always use a base coat and Seche Vite or an off brand equivalent.
Nails Inc makes my nails peel without fail every time.

mamaison · 08/01/2025 21:44

I agree that Orly rubberised base coat and OPI is the best combo.

I like Essie but it chips quicker for me than OPI. Same goes for Nails Inc.

Maboscelar · 08/01/2025 21:51

Essie and Barry M

But the main thing is top coat every other day and a new coat of colour every 3-5 days. I can make mine last 2-3 weeks doing this.

MustBeDueSomeBetterFeet · 08/01/2025 21:51

Also came on to recommend the powder dips. Mine are lasting at least two weeks. I'm using Sassy Saints but not sure of it's true provenance so will be trying Dipped UK next.

LisaD1 · 08/01/2025 22:14

I’ve never found one that works for me. I have horses so always busy doing a manual chore of some sort. I bought myself a UV lamp for about £25 and just do my own, lasts at least a couple of weeks.

PaperRing · 08/01/2025 22:17

I love Essie but THE biggest thing that has made a difference to my nails is the Seche Vite top coat - am never without it! It dries polish to a properly hard finish super quickly and makes my nails significantly more resistant to chipping.

LuckySantangelo35 · 08/01/2025 22:35

Is it the Seche Vite Dry Fast Top Coat? £7.25 on Amazon?
