Denmark 'controls' Green land policy/ finances / security. There have been rumblings of green landers wanting independence of late due to the forced contraception in 1960/70s of Danes to its people and the separation from their parents of green land Children in the past ( also instigated by The Danish Govt )
Talks were cancelled between the PM of GL and the king of Denmark just this week.
It looks like GL want independence from Denmark sooner than later.
The capital NUUK is nearer NY than Copenhagen .

Greenland is an autonomous territory of Denmark. The Danes have not shown any interest on a change.

Greenland would NOT be better off as a US territory. There would be massive exploitation of resources with little investment in infrastructure or community. See Puerto Rico and The Marianas for example. Greenland would also likely be heavily militarized if it ever came under US control. On of the PR islands was used for bombing.

And then there's the question of indigenous rights in a territory under the pur iew of a Supreme Court that has gigantic corruption problems.
