When posters totally derail a thread because they've got the huff

Why is this? Well, I know exactly why this is! It's because supposed grown adults take the hump that their stance isn't agreed with 😅

For the rights of keeping this relevant to an actual thread post... Am I being unreasonable or not? 😁

I think I'm going to need an example of what you're talking about.

malmi · 07/01/2025 17:27

I don't have a clue what you're on about, sorry. What's everyone having for dinner tonight? I actually fancy curry.

Just look to the forums 😁

They can't derail unless others engage.

Letthewrongonein · 07/01/2025 17:28

I’m actually having a curry @malmi

What kind of curry? 😋

I think I know what you're talking about. Very irritating.

EffortlesslyInelegant · 07/01/2025 17:30

I suppose it would help to know exactly what you are butt-hurt about OP? Your perception of someone derailing and 'taking the hump' may not be universal so it's not good saying "look to the forums". I don't know what for!

Cheese and biscuits for us (Christmas leftovers).🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂

I think often its just that conversations naturally evolve and go off in different directions and a point can be picked up and debated. Then that can lead to a different point and before you know it you're having a furious row about whether true socialism can ever actually exist on a thread about carrier bags.

It's harder to keep track in an online discussion because it's like ten + conversations crossing over each other repeatedly. Discussions within discussions.

I think sometimes people just want to have the last word. Or feel like they 'won'.

Obviously not OK on sensitive threads but on random threads it can be more interesting to watch the fight than keep up with the actual point of the thread.

Or maybe that's just me 🤣

Redrosesposies · 07/01/2025 17:34

and I'm fairly certain you could identify the political persuasion of those who get a strop when their opinion is universally acclaimed as the truth

Letthewrongonein · 07/01/2025 17:34

A cheese and biscuit curry @Nourishinghandcream? very avant garde

I'm having sausage and mash 3 bears style with a bloody big G&T

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 07/01/2025 17:37

I take offence at this thread and need you all to know that I've just ordered a new rug.

Barbie222 · 07/01/2025 17:37

I've got a curry on the table!

Arlanymor · 07/01/2025 17:39

I dislike it on sensitive threads as it feels really selfish to be trying to score points off another poster when the thread originator has asked for help or is getting something off their chest. At those times I just wish people would start their own thread if they want a rant.

At other times it can be fairly entertaining, particularly when one of the two sides has massively misunderstood the original point but refuses to acknowledge it. Always reminds me of that saying: “When you’re dead - lie down!”

Poppyseeds79 · 07/01/2025 17:40

I've gone with left over snackage tonight too... So it's Pringles, dips, and some ham here 😊

iwishihadaname · 07/01/2025 17:40

They enjoy it

StormingNorman · 07/01/2025 17:41

Yes! There’s one going on at the moment. OP’s long-term partner has died intestate and there are three of four posters squabbling and vying for the last word.

Ironically, they are arguing about an insensitive post and by continuing to discuss it they’ve turned an easily missed molehill into a mountain 😂

SereneFish · 07/01/2025 17:43

Some people have to have the last word.

Is it an offensive rug?

MrsToothyBitch · 07/01/2025 17:50

YANBU. There was one recently where someone asking about how to handle her extremely difficult, alcoholic and seemingly unstable mother. She had her thread hijacked by a true meaning of Christmas / Christmas is for Christians type debate.

Ah, but without the topic contortionism this thread will be deemed the TAAT that it clearly is, and will promptly disappear in a puff of blue Mumsnet smoke 🌬

Think what a devastating loss to the world of internet discussion that would be!
