Has anyone had a flare whilst pregnant?
im only around 6 weeks pregnant but I have noticed the last 2 weeks I have been flaring and I’m worried I got diagnosed in November and got put on mesalazine suppository’s taken one each night and I have never missed a night !
but now I’ve noticed I’m having urgency
this all started after my son in 2022 and then had my daughter in 23 and had no issues carried her full term great weigh ect but now I’m thinking the disease has gotten worse will this effect my pregnancy am I at risk of miscarrying ?
I know no one can tell me what will happen just seeing if anyone.
has been in the position before
thank you x

My DD had flare ups with her second pregnancy. She also did while BF. It was a difficult time for her, but only she suffered, dropped weight, not the baby. We were worried by how drawn she looked, hollowed eyes, very sallow looking etc. She didn't take anything during that time. It took around fourteen months after stopping breastfeeding to look well again. She wasn't told that there was a chance of miscarriage, but speak to your MW.

I have ulcerative colitis and I believe that there can be increased risks during pregnancy. When I had my first scan I was referred to my UC specialist for monitoring but given you’re already having a flare up I would contact them.

@user1471464395 hi yes I will call them tomorrow hopefully someone can help x

Good luck! I know the medicine I’m on can be taken during pregnancy so hopefully they’ll find you something that works

Hufflemuff · 06/01/2025 22:09

Are you having any Mesalazine granules/tablets? Maybe ask to try an enema rather than the suppository. Emena will reach higher up the colon and the granules will get the top half of your gut.

Shauna2866 · 06/01/2025 22:15

@Hufflemuff nope just the suppositories
I’ll see if they can give me anything else hopefully the ibd nurses can help tomorrow being pregnant is a worry on its own but having this as well is sending me in to panic ! X

I think you're right to speak to your IBD team tomorrow, hope they are helpful 💐

The midwives should put you under an obstetric consultant and book growth scans when you get that far. In my experience they don't seem that worried about the UC itself but are concerned by connected conditions like anaemia.
