I have a complaint about TV dramas

Im currently watching Payback on ITVx and thoroughly enjoying it. The storyline and acting are both spot on . Plus I love Peter Mullan - so nice - so nasty .
Except yet again crucial elements to the storyline are texts/emails/ letters that are briefly shown on screen.
I have subtitles on all of the time although Im not short sighted as I dont want to miss any of the script due to other noise or mumbling ( not a problem with this production) . But I am too far away from the screen and the texts are not highlighted, enlarged or held for any length of time to allow me to read them .

Ive had to resort to stopping the playback to try and see whats going on. Its effective but doesnt half break up the flow of the story.

Is it just me?

Not just you. It’s really annoying they always flash them up and take em off before I get chance to read them. so I pause and accidentally click the off button, every time it seems.

Not just you, it drives me mad.

I'm always appreciative when a programme or film will have texts / emails actually come up on the screen in like speech bubbles, but so many just expect you to be able to make out what is written on a character's tiny phone screen grrr

I find the same!

me too, I also have the subtitles on as most of the time I can't understand the actors mumbling....or maybe I need a hearing test 😅

Also so many set in the dark so you have a clue what is happening. Of music allegedly in the background but actually so loud I can’t hear the speech. I have very good hearing but sometimes resort to subtitles.

I get they want to set an atmosphere but I can’t be bothered if I can’t hear or see the action.
