To just get a DIY will ?

DH and I have been together since high school and married for over 21 yrs and have 2 kids together. We own our house (mortgage) and have some savings. We both have our private pensions and we have insurance to cover the mortgage if we die.

We got a quote of £1600 for a set of mirror wills. Our friends recently got a DIY will from WHSmith. They seem confident this is good enough and legally binding. We don’t know much about their finances - so not sure how straight forward their situation is. AIBU to just DIY it with a WHSmith will template?

Use the Free Will Network, I did a mirror will for free this way and gave a donation to charity ( I didn't need to leave anything to charity in my will) the service was completely free, we did it with a local solicitor and it even included a simple letter to accompany the Will.

Mine's straightfoward as no partner/DH or kids. I made it with Farewill via the British Heart Foundation - just left a donation in the will.

I had attempted to make one previously with a solicitor during free wills month - it was online with an initial phonecall with a followup questionnaire. They took forever and made a number of serious mistakes which luckily I spotted (mixing up beneficiaries!). Got fed up with the back and forth and went with the above.

LPAs you can do yourself - do it online and then print out ALL the pages (including blank ones) and get it witnessed the same time as the wills.
