To refuse to go to Christmas work parties

Another Christmas, and yet again here I am in bed with a bad cold/flu. Every year.

combination of tiredness, germ season, enforced joviality at work christmas gatherings means high germ transmission rates. I’m fed up. In a few days I have to go back to work and I’ll have spent most of the Christmas break ill.

next year, I’m going to refuse to go to any Christmas event, with or without work.

When was the Christmas do?

I’m nearly always ill or at least a bit under the weather at Christmas!

You can of course do as you please.

I suspect that unavoidable contact with children and the constant transmission of germs and viruses is largely responsible for Christmas illness though.

Pros and cons. If you don’t go and workplace is toxic, that’s good for mental health but may also put you in the firing line.

Fine if you don't like people

You'll still get ill even without all the Christmas events or work parties. Unless you mean you'll stay inside and see no one and not go out then it wont make a difference unfortunately getting ill in winter is normal and unavoidable.

When was the Christmas do?

The last one was 2 days before the last day of work, a week ago.

We had a pretty much isolated Christmas due to my child’s shocking immune system. We didn’t do our usual big outings etc but we did all end up ill. Our only visitor was child nurse who was wearing ppe.

I’d say it’s pretty much how it goes now, we always end up unwell regardless as to how much we avoid it!
