Mother doesn't want to join us for Xmas

I have a wonderful, but rather needy DM. My DD died about 10 years ago and she married her new husband about 5 years ago. Prior to her remarrying she would insist that I call her daily and was constantly giving me guilt trips if I didn't include her in all my plans.

However, since remarrying she has distanced herself from the family and now refuses to leave the house. Again this year she said she didn't want to spend Christmas with us and gave an excuse. She then made me feel bad that I didn't call on Xmas day. I had a house full of people and she didn't try and phone me....

I don't really know what I'm asking...I just don't enjoy constantly feeling guilty! Perhaps it's time I grow up?!

Why doesn't she leave the house? Is there a chance her new husband is coercive and controlling? Sounds strange.

Sounds like a lucky break - rejoice.

New husband very nice and he'd love to leave the house! She can get very tired from the medications she takes and I think she's let her comfort zone become so small she just doesn't want to do anything....
