Think seriously about going to gym

Oh god! Dreaded adverts for weight management and gyms are back on TV.

Based on my and a few friends’ experiences, January is not the best time to join these things.

Been a member of WW and Slimming World. In January, get loads of new people join. Come to second half of Feb, only about 2 people joined in Jan are going. Similar situation to gyms.

Yet go other times of the year, don’t see this happening as much

I think people think they can lose 2.5 stone in a month!

I don't think people think they can lose a stone in the month, I think they join in January as they have motivation, New Years' resolutions and the like and then that wanes.

What's your AIBU?

Gyms are always busy in Jan. It's not important, I'll just be glad when it's back to normal times me.

I do find it annoying when 100s of people flock to the gym in January, making it really busy and difficult to get on equipment.

However I also recognize they've paid their sub, same as me and have as much right to be there as me 🤷🏼‍♀️

And if just a couple of them find a hobby they enjoy long term, lose weight, gain strength, improve their health then it's a positive isn't it?

I don't understand the gatekeeping of health and fitness. Everyone should be welcome in.

Just stick your headphones on and like you say, by Feb, it'll be quiet again.
