Mounjaro or Norovirus??

i have been on Mounjaro for 4 months and doing very well. No particular side effects other than initial nausea and I have occasionally been sick when I have over indulged (but not for a few months now)
I decided to have a break over Xmas and took last 7.5mg jab on 13/12. Last few days had a few things on and eaten more than normal but not excessively so. Culminated in Xmas day when I had a very nice, but very rich, Xmas dinner. Along with pudding and a couple glasses of wine
i I woke up in the night feeling dreadful- stomach cramps and nausea. Then have had V&D most of the day. It is easing off now but my stomach is quite crampy and I can’t even face a cup of tea!
initially I thought it was overindulgence but I have never had V&D on Mounjaro. I have been sick but as soon as I have, I’ve felt immediately better, no cramps etc. I feel rubbish today and have been asleep and have no energy. But this could just be recovery from a very few stressful months.
we (DH and 2 teen DDs) are supposed to go to my family this evening. I actually am not to fussed about going now because don’t feel great. And mainly, if it is a bug I do not want to pass it on. However, if it just because I ate too much I will grin and bear it as today not been much fun for my kids. DH is happy to take DDs without me.
thank you for reading this far. The AIBU is…AIBU to go to a family gathering when I’m not sure if I have a stomach bug, or just eaten too much!
BTW if I was not on Mounjaro I would fully accept that I had a bug

How long a breaK did you have? I thought after a break of more than a week you had to start again?

In my experience norovirus has a very distinctive smell.

LolaLouise · 26/12/2024 15:02

Its impossible to diagnose over the internet like that. Rest up and have plenty of fluids either way.

I have only missed 1 jab. So I should have taken in on 20 Dec. My plan is to restart it on 30 Dec so will have had 10 day break

Take it as a sign that your body doesn't like unhealthy food

Icepop79 · 26/12/2024 15:07

Highly likely to be mounjaro imo. I don’t tend to vomit on mounjaro but I’ve had a few bouts of horrendous stomach cramps and diarrhoea particularly a few weeks after moving up a dose. I did vomit a couple of times on Wegovy.
i would suggest taking - slightly lower dose next time because you’ve had a long break if you’ve not had anything since the 13th.

Thank you. Yes I know I can’t be diagnosed by MN! Probably should have made post clearer but was wanting to see if other Mounjaro users have had similar. I do think though that the best thing will be to stay away from people just in case it is a bug

Again though, its different for everyone. I havent stopped over christmas, but my side effects are horrendous the day after jabbing every week (D&V), then settle down, some have consistent but milder side effects, some have them just the first week after increasing the dose, others have none at all. I think with any D&V you dont know the source of, stay home incase it is infective, rest and fluids is the answer. Even if it does turn out to be mj related, you dont know that for certain yet.

I believe 14 days is the max to stay on same dose? If you miss a dose you can continue you next one, but longer than 14 days you should go back down to and titrate up again. If you last dose was 13th, you should aim to jab by the 27th.

Even then though, it will be less effective. After an extra 7 days the active amount in your system will be halved aagin, so after injecting the active dose will be less than it was before when jabbing weekly.

If you use the shotsy app. the graphic shows how the active amount increases week on week and will show how waiting will result in a less active amount

I realised as I wrote that my dates and maths were’nt adding up! I was counting from the date next jab was due, but thank you for clarifying it is date from last jab
i will start again tomorrow. TBH being off it hasn’t been much fun and whilst I’ve probably eaten slightly larger portions I have still not wanted sweet things. I treated myself to a tin of Heroes last week and they still remain unopened!

I had less than half of my very small christmas dinner and one mouthful of my most favourite dessert in the world (panna cotta), i didnt even drink half my glass of wine which was half soda water either lol. But I also hit 20kg lost this morning and one christmas missing out on food is worth it for the health benefits of loosing so much weight. I still have another 15kg to go to hit my target weight, but hopefully by next christmas we can enjoy christmas and maintain a healthy lifestyle hey!?

When I had Noro, I had a raging fever, cold sweats and unstoppable shivers, along with V&D that didn't stop even when it was just bile / fluid. I was curled up in a ball if I wasn't in the bathroom. I think this is most people's experience too. The nausea on MJ is mild in comparison.

I did that exact thing with the last 7.5 dose and had exactly the same reaction

Catladysings · 26/12/2024 18:28

I took a break this week from my jab (5mg) but remained suppressed - I had a rich Christmas dinner, no alcohol no pudding no chocolates etc because I didn’t fancy anything- at 5am Boxing Day I was V&D and thought I was noro too but I didn’t get ill again, just felt rubbish all day topped off with a UTI - I haven’t been sick at all on Mounjaro so far and if this is what it is like, I will go back to eating healthy for good

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 26/12/2024 18:32

I had norovirus about 14 years ago, and it was horrendous. I was hallucinating and ended up in a&e on a drip. I’ve never had anything like it before or since and I think that if you had it, you’d really know about it. It was uncontrollable and I felt worse than I ever thought possible with a virus.

Tinatess · 26/12/2024 18:42

I feel really awful today after having two deserts helpings after lunch yesterday. It's probably the cream but have had D and V all night and slept most of today.
I'm on 7.5 and have been mostly fine so lve learnt a lesson. Just about managing water.
