Anyone else’s teen a nightmare?

Usual drill. Lovely day with family. Plenty of asked for gifts and a few surprises. Nice walk followed by a pub drink. Home now and teen DD acting like she is the most deprived and neglected child on the planet. She’s not usually a brat but honestly I feel like Christmas brings out the worst in here. I just wonder why we go to all this effort and end up upset and stressed out. ☹️

How old? I've seen a huge difference between the 14yo stroppy mare and the 18yo considerate young person Smile

Fifteen ☹️

Come on, OP - we might all be old now but, surely, we all remember that the whole point of being a teenager is to be a nightmare! And parental fuss about Christmas always made us long to leave home and/or be an orphan.

I know, you’re right. I just feel a little dejected. But it is normal.

@Cigarettesandbooze

Oh dear. What kind of things is she doing (or not doing)?

Tearful, unhelpful, stroppy. Maybe she’s just exhausted and overwhelmed.

In the same boat..dc 14 was a nightmare, but dc 18 lovely and thoughtful so there is hope!

2 x 15 year olds here
We've had some stroppiness however I'm made some things none negotiable and some things ok. It's a funny age!

DetestTheClockChange · 25/12/2024 20:26

@Cigarettesandbooze quite possibly. Teens are inherently selfish - even if they're gorgeous people - and a whole day being with people and a lot going on can be overwhelming. To be fair, I feel a bit like your DD too Grin

DC19 is foul. I was hoping after a term at uni he would have grown up a bit. He has always been slow to mature, so I guess we still have a way to go. It is exhausting.

Cigarettesandbooze · 25/12/2024 21:26

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply. We have eaten and she has perked up. I do recall being foul at her age to be fair so I guess it’s karma. Happy Christmas all.
