To ask dd not to visit. Suspected Norovirus

DD's boyfriend has announced today he's probably got norovirus and therefore sadly won't join us on Xmas day. I appreciate his thinking. DD says she's going to visit him on Boxing Day. AIBU to say that if that's the case then she shouldn't come back to my house after that visit in case she spreads it to us... She lives about a mile from me so we can meet up for drinks and walks outside

Of course YANBU.

ZippyCat · 24/12/2024 14:32

I agree with you op

Katy232425 · 24/12/2024 15:17

I’m with you, I don’t want to see anyone with noro, or who’s been near anyone with noro. It’s a vile illness and your daughter would be wise to forget Boxing Day and stay away from her boyfriend for at least 48 hours after he’s better. At least he’s had the good sense to cancel coming over for Christmas himself.

My only exception to that is for my dependent children still living at home and too small to be isolated for a few days, everyone else can keep their germs to themselves.

MumOfOneAllAlone · 24/12/2024 15:30

How old is she?

biscuitsandbooks · 24/12/2024 15:31

If he has norovirus then DD needs to stay well away!

cuteyfluff · 24/12/2024 15:34

Who is saying you're unreasonable? Do they want you to vomit everywhere?

May09Bump · 24/12/2024 15:41

Absolutely right to not have DD over - it went through our whole family one after the other Christmas Eve, Christmas day and Boxing Day last year. It was horrific.

BreatheAndFocus · 24/12/2024 15:58

Why TAF would your DD visit him when he’s got Norovirus??! She can phone him or FaceTime him. I’m sure he’d prefer that rather than have her there amongst the vomit and worse. It’s not kind, it’s stupid. No wonder these viruses spread like wildfire.

But yes, if she sees him, she shouldn’t visit you.

TheCatterall · 24/12/2024 16:12

@Caroparo52 whilst it’s sad that he possibly has norovirus (and it’s not a ruse to escape pre-made plans?) it’s at least going to make him ill for up to 3 days and he could still be infectious to others during that time and after.

going to visit him is irresponsible if she intends socialising with others after. Maybe she won’t be affected by it - or might have a mild case - but she could pass on a very nasty bug to others who could be impacted badly by it.

cuteyfluff · 24/12/2024 16:47

Is he making her visit him?

user87349287657 · 24/12/2024 16:54

Yanbu - we went to a funeral at the start of the winter, someone there had dragged themselves off their sickbed to attend. It’s nearly finished off half the elderly population of the village, was bad enough for us younger ones!
Tell DD to stay home.

MissRoseDurward · 24/12/2024 16:56

d&v bugs are hugely contagious. DD should stay away from him, unless she's able to isolate herself for 2-3 days afterwards. If she lives in a houseshare, for example, it would be really inconsiderate to knowingly risk bringing the bug home.

If bf needs stuff from the shops, she can leave it on the doorstep and text him to come and take it in while she waits at the gate.

This. Norovirus can put people in hospital

twohotwaterbottles · 24/12/2024 17:30

Absolutely right OP. The NHS are putting our warnings to not put yourself at any risk as the hospitals are rammed with flu, Niro virus and other nasties. Tell her to keep away. It's incredibly transmittable

twohotwaterbottles · 24/12/2024 17:30

Norovirus not Robert de Niro virus obvs 😂

justasking111 · 24/12/2024 17:41

Our local hospital is handing out masks, enforcing hand sanitizer, staff wearing gowns. They're overrun with norovirus at the moment.

Makes you talk weirdly, makes your face all scrunched up to one side, makes your eyes squint?
