Teen gifts …

Under the tree when wrapped or put out on Christmas Eve?

Both chidren now teens, I still put all their gifts out overnight on Christmas Eve even though they obviously know it’s me.

I think it stops them touching and shaking, especially older DS as with his ADHD he would ask every day to open something or constantly guess what it is but also for that excitement of opening the door on Christmas morning and seeing the pile of gifts.

DD has just said, you are the only person out of all my friends that does this and doesn’t just put them under the tree as they are wrapped.

We have gifts not yet given to family members, gifts from the kids to us and gifts from family members for us all under the tree. So not like there is nothing there.

YABU - put the gifts out as they are wrapped
YANBU - put them out overnight on Christmas Eve

Mine are younger (oldest is 11) but we do all under the tree on Christmas eve once they're in bed, my mum has always done the same too even now we are adults

It keeps an element of surprise I think, yes we knew it was mum and dad (but tree presents were always mum and dad, santa only fills stockings) but still got that wow moment christmas morning

Yes even when they were younger, only one or two of the gifts were from ‘Santa’ but he delivered them all.

Out on Christmas Eve because otherwise the cats would destroy them

FreeSpiritPixie · 23/12/2024 20:29

If I’m with my family over Christmas we all still put the presents out overnight - nowadays often meeting at the Christmas tree just before midnight or so, all with smirks on our faces.. I’m 35 and I think it’s sweet. We do however have two kids in the larger family, but we do this regardless on whether they’re there in person or not (kids and their mum and dad also live away as do I).

abigaail · 23/12/2024 20:31

All presents stay in my bedroom until Xmas morning. I'm first up so I bring them down and put them under the tree. Youngest is 17 now, although dh would be the one to sniff around and try and guess what's what!

Sorrypinkfish · 23/12/2024 22:17

Out on Christmas Eve, always! We have 6 children ranging from 20 down to 1 and even now I have never admitted to the older kids that it’s me putting the presents out and neither have my parents admitted it to me and I’m 40!! It’s part of the magic in our house.

GoodVibesHere · 23/12/2024 22:52

'Santa' puts them out on xmas eve in our house, and my DC are 18 and 16 !

chocolatespreadsandwich · 23/12/2024 22:57

I loved them appearing under the tree overnight, even when I was a teenager. It felt really magical

ThisBlueMoose · 23/12/2024 22:58

This is the same as what we do in our house. We have always done it and will do until they move out and spend Christmas elsewhere! They can have their own rules and traditions then.

FeliznaviDogs · 23/12/2024 23:01

Here there’s now just us adults and the furries. Presents go out on Christmas Eve. A carrot is still out out with a small whisky. Possibly when DH goes to bed the pup MAY eat the carrot, and I MAY drink the whisky…. Or maybe it’s Rudolph and the jolly man in the red suit? Who knows 👀👀👀…. It’s all so magical!

BookShark · 23/12/2024 23:14

Stockings magically get filled overnight by b Father Christmas. Everything else is from family and goes under the tree over the course of December so that it looks festive (and gives the cats something to hide behind). DD is 14 and it's always been that way - helps build the anticipation. I can't believe you all wait until Christmas Eve - my gifts are all beautifully wrapped so form part of the decoration!

DarkForces · 23/12/2024 23:19

I've been putting wrapped presents under the tree for the last week. I love the way it looks. The stocking is well hidden and will be delivered by Santa on Xmas Eve night!

ShamblesRock · 23/12/2024 23:24

Mine are 12, 16 and 18. Everything magically appears in their stockings (bedrooms) and sack (lounge) in the middle of the night.

Usually have extended family under the tree, though I've sorted things so late this year that most of that has gone straight into bags to go down on Boxing Day.

Presents go under the tree on Xmas eve morning

Curious but do the people who put presents under the tree for days/weeks beforehand have a fake tree?

I need to hoover up the few needles before the presents go under because it's a real tree

Makelikeatreeandleaf · 23/12/2024 23:27

I have cats. If there were presents under the tree for long, they'd be ribbonless, leapt on and generally twatted about with.

mondaytosunday · 23/12/2024 23:50

Until about four years ago (do they were 15 and 17) my youngest insisted not until Xmas Eve and I'd put them under after they'd gone to bed. But now it's as and when. I like the look of presents under the tree.

DarkForces · 24/12/2024 07:13

@Chipshopninja yes. We have a fake tree. There's no way I'm spending my time over Christmas hoovering up pine needles from every crevice

We have loads of wrapped presents under the tree still though as there are all the ones we’ve wrapped for family that we will hand out today & tomorrow plus the ones already given to us from other people and the teens gifts to us and each other. Just the teens gifts that are not out.

Not sure!!
I've got a guesser and rattler as well.
But lovely to see presents on Xmas morning and I'm still doing stocking

ghostyslovesheets · 24/12/2024 07:23

I have a fear of being burgled before Christmas- mainly because we were always at church for midnight mass and we were robbed one Easter Sunday when I was a child!
so we have some presents under the tree - small gifts for family etc, but everything else is hidden until Christmas morning- silly but it doesn’t spoil anything.

LisaD1 · 24/12/2024 07:28

Ours go out a few days before and the stocking magically appears outside their bedroom door. Youngest and only one at home is 17.

we are away this year with DD and her BF and we bought all the gifts with us and they’re now under our holiday cottage tree (the people we rented it from put a tree up ready).

When they were younger we did the whole appearing on Christmas morning and it was lovely :)
