I am such an idiot!

Christmas is at my sister’s this year which is a bit different but they have a new house and want to break it in. My sister is a type A personality and has been very organised in her arranging. She emailed the cooks of the family what she would like us to contribute. I saw the email two months ago and skimmed the email. Saw that I was on pudding and cocktail. Bought the ingredients and was ready to crack on.

Just checked email and I’ve misread the email. I’m on hors d’oeuvres!!

I can’t see ANYTHING I like online. And I am panicking a bit as I catch the train up tomorrow.

There is one veggie.

Please tell me what to make!

How about doing a charcuterie board in the shape of a Xmas tree or wreath? You could do cheese, olives, tomatos etc ham on the side so it’s veggie friendly too ?

I’m a fan of lidls party food, especially the spring rolls and baos! Could that work?

Ottolenghi smoked trout rilettes - Google the recipe. Dead easy and you can sub smoked salmon instead.

Bite sized macaroni cheese - normal macaroni cheese recipe cooked in a bun tray.

Go shopping when you get there and see what looks good

It has to be homemade! Sorry should have said.

I like the wreath antipasti idea. That is all over TikTok, Pinterest etc.

Warm Blinis, mix sour cream with a tiny bitnof horseradish and add smoked salmon. Voila.

Mini sausages mixed in honey and mustard and roasted.

Mix houmous and Greek yoghurt in pretty flat bowl. Scatter with pomegranate seeds and tiny chopped cucumber. Serve with breadsticks or plain tortilla chips.

Martha Stewart three cheese spinach and artichoke dip is really nice. You could take the ingredients on the train and make it at your sister's.

We are doing smoked salmon & cream cheese blinis, serrano ham & cream cheese blinis for the non-fish eaters, sausage rolls (can get veggie ones) and goats cheese & pesto pinwheels (pre-rolled puff pastry)

twistyizzy · 22/12/2024 13:42

Blinis with various toppings. Sainsbury's do decent salmon mousse in handy blini sized portions. Then cream cheese + smoked salmon, prawns etc.
Really quick and easy.

Baby wellies- vol au vents (Aldi may have ready cooked star shaped ones) with mushroom pate, Parma ham and that thin beef stuff like Parma ham.
Nigella's fig, goats cheese in Parma ham bundles
Prawn cocktail (from nigells feast) on blinis
Hairy bikers salmon pate on slices of cucumber
Pate with cranberry sauce on crackers

I did red onion and goats cheese tarts recently which went down very well. Pre bough shortcrust pastry, cut into rounds and blind baked for 15 mins in muffin tin. Caramelise three finely sliced red onions with thyme and garlic, then add balsamic and boil off the moisture. Teaspoon of onion in each case, top with goats cheese. Bake for 20 mins. Absolutely delicious, travel and reheat very well.

I had a party yesterday and served:
smoked trout pate with sour cream crinkle crisps (the good ones, not the rubbish ones). We topped it with caviar for added fancè
fig quarters with goats cheese
Pear and Stilton puff pastry twists
Marmite and cheddar twists
Plates and plates and plates of honey glazed baby pigs in blankets because everyone loves PIBs
