Just that really, is it ok to leave the bathroom door open after doing a number two?

Close it why would you want the smell of shit everywhere

I think there is a train of thought leave it open so smell disappears quicker in a bigger space
bot my method of choice

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 22/12/2024 11:43

Close it. I don't want the smell of shit floating around.

Shortestday · 22/12/2024 11:54

Close the door, open the window a crack and put some toilet duck or similar down the loo is what I would call acceptable behaviour.

neverknowinglyunreasonable · 22/12/2024 11:59

It's fine to leave it open to let everyone know you've done your business. It's a good way to establish dominance over the household. I also do it when I stay with my in-laws.

As someone with IBS, there’s not a chance I’m leaving the door open and subjecting the rest of my family to that. Door shut, bathroom window wide open, and a spray of air freshener. The rest of my family also close the door with their normal bowels.

BarbaraHoward · 22/12/2024 12:03

Door closed, window open, fan on if applicable. Pretty standard surely?

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/12/2024 12:04

Open window then close it.

The13thFairy · 22/12/2024 12:10

I have never lived anywhere with a bathroom window and am so envious of all of you blithely opening them after a poo.

MrsSkylerWhite · 22/12/2024 12:14

Air freshener, then.

Stillherestillpraying · 22/12/2024 12:17

Lid down, spray, open the window and close the door

Dotto · 22/12/2024 12:21

Open window door closed.

The design of toilets in America don't smell after pooing for some reason. I looked into getting one here but it's quite niche.

allyb1 · 23/12/2024 13:48

Thanks for the replies. My husband uses the toilet beside our front door for his ‘daily constitutional’ and likes to leave the door open to air it out. He does spray air freshener to be fair but it doesn’t totally make the underlying smell. He thinks I’m being unreasonable! I don’t like our front hall to smell like a dirty bathroom.

Does your loo not have a window he could open instead?

If not then keep a box of matches in there and strike a couple to clear the smell.

Getting rid of the smell is much better than trapping it in there and getting hit by it when you go in later.

Back21970 · 23/12/2024 13:57

I don’t have a window in the bathroom so always like the door left open, doesn’t really stink the rest of the place out.

I have a plug in air freshener right outside the door that I switch on for a bit so suppose that helps.

Wow I thought our windowless bathroom was horribly unusual! We have a good extractor fan though.

Bathroom door shut in this scenario, fan on and spray air freshener also. But then we always close the door as our cat will otherwise run in, sit in the empty bath and refuse to get out.

You need an extractor fan!

I once read that in prison if prisoners decide to do a mass shit protest that is smear shit over themselves and a cell, they clean up the prisoner but not the cells and then lock them in each others dirty cells . There is nothing more vomiting inducing than smelling someone one else's shit .

At home open a window , bleach the toilet and shut the door . Striking a match gets rid of the odour too .

Floogal · 25/12/2024 12:28

I work in a healthcare facility that caters to mostly old people. Amazing how many staff think it's ok to let them shit with all the doors open. Some can't even be bothered to flush the toilet. Then complain that the place stinks.
