My dh is a news obsessive

AIBU to find it tedious?
He's a lovely chap in most ways, but he is always checking the news, and wants to share what he's found out.
I think it's because he's an optimist, so he is rarely upset by it.
I, on the other hand, am a pessimist, and every titbit he wants to share confirms my view that we're going to hell in a handcart (I would love to have his mindset).
I don't avoid the news altogether, I just stick to a weekend paper and that's enough.

I’m a bit similar to your DH news wise (but a pessimist to boot) and am particularly drawn to awful stories. My DH told me it upsets him when I recount them to him so I’ve had to learn not to. Have a chat with your OH and explain the effect it’s having and ask him to try and keep it to the weekend when maybe you can have a bit of a chat about it together then move on.

My husband has become a bit of an expert on the Russia/Ukraine conflict. It's full on (ADHD obsession) but he's generally keeps it to himself. Like you, I don't appreciate the information he does share because it's so bloody terrifying.

He can do a public service by coming on here and telling us his positive interpretation of it! I also have the hell in a handcart feel. I think you should let him loose!

If you find what someone enjoys talking about tedious then... why marry them? It's a pretty fundamental part of his character.

I'm a news junkie and talk about current affairs a lot, I'd find it weird if someone who was bored by that wanted to be in a relationship with me.

DP similar and he loves to tell me which in the news person has died, or other calamities.

I point out I have a news feature which pops down and see it all but he seems to love doing it.

That and shoving his phone in my face to show me the latest meme.

Does he know how you feel about it? I’m like your dh, I love the news. I also follow a lot of court cases live online and all the updates. I do have autism so I guess it’s one of my hyper focus things, but I know dh finds it a bit tedious so I only share 1/3 of what I find really…! Your dh may not understand you don’t want to hear about it all the time.
