Sorry posting for traffic.

Dog’s food has not been delivered in shop. We have absolutely none left. My car is at the garage and dh is away for work.

I have given 35kg Golden Retriever - 4 chicken thighs, half an apple and 2 thick slices of cheese. Not ideal but is that enough for his dinner?

I don’t know why but I’m really worried it’s not adequate . The thighs I bought really roasted down and were fairly small.

My dad can bring food in the morning. Should I scramble some eggs?

Im worried too much rich food/protein and fat will cause an upset stomach.

Any advice would be amazing

That sounds like plenty to me! My lab would be full on that x

CissOff · 15/12/2024 23:03

I think that’s fine for an evening - he’ll probably be delighted!

I’d possibly swap a slice of cheese for a scrambled egg though, especially if he doesn’t have it often?

SussexLass87 · 15/12/2024 23:03

Do you have any vegetables you can add to it? Frozen peas, carrots etc? Some rice would also bulk it out and shouldn't contribute to a potential upset tummy.

Add a scrambled egg to that and the chicken thighs would help.

He will be fine to miss a meal or two providing he has water. However, if you don't feel he has had enough to satisfy him, cook some white rice and scramble some eggs to go with it - both easily digestible and healthy - what vets recommend if a dog has an upset stomach.

I would add Egg and veg and rice and take away the cheese

MinSpy · 15/12/2024 23:05

Haha! That's plenty OP! You do know that your pooch could actually survive without eating at all, for a whole day!? We can all miss a meal every now and again with no harm done!!

He's clearly a loved pet and you've made him a tasty dinner! All is fine! Stop worrying! He'll b very happy to have had fresh chicken and cheese! Lucky dog!!

That's more than adequate.

Dogs stomachs have a way of rumbling really loudly if they're empty!

Kolare · 15/12/2024 23:09

Thanks all for input.

I have rice and frozen vegetable which I could whizz up with an egg. Is a cup of rice about the right amount?

The thighs were minuscule after roasting, only reason I’m umming and ahhing

Mine would be shitting through the eye of a needle on that! I always keep in plain rice for dog food emergencies (as mine also has a sensitive stomach and plain rice is a good settler).

SussexLass87 · 15/12/2024 23:16

Just make enough food to give him the equivalent of what he normally eats. I eye ball my dog's meals most days! You'll know how much he will need 👍

patchysmum · 15/12/2024 23:36

He could have had the thighs raw its not recommended to give cooked chicken bones, but yes rice and veg will fill him up

This (although doggo may disagree).
we had the same issue last week. Our lab had chicken, rice and broccoli/carrots. He loved it. All the benefits of being ill, but well 🤣🤣
