Do you sit together as a family

Frigginfreezing · 15/12/2024 21:22

Often?
As in, how often do you all sit on the sofa together to watch tv and how long for?
I feel like Dh only sits with us briefly, then he’s off

We don’t watch tv at all as a family but we have young kids. We eat dinner together every day and lunch most days though. Does he dislike the things you watch? This personally wouldn’t bother me. Watching tv doesn’t feel like quality time anyway.

BarbieKew · 15/12/2024 21:28

Never watch tv together now they are teenagers, I think wanting everyone to all watch the same thing is a bit odd. We do eat together most nights though.

xyzandabc · 15/12/2024 21:28

On the sofa watching TV, never. There are very few programmes or films that would interest both dh and I as we like very different things. Add in 3 teens, I'm not sure I can think of more than about 2 things that all 5 of us would like to watch.

But we do eat dinner together almost every day.

RegulatorsMountUp · 15/12/2024 21:29

Me and DH sit together watching TV and chatting for at least 2 hours every night after the gym/kids activities etc.

kiana2015 · 15/12/2024 21:30

This has become an argument actually, DP will sit with me and DD in the day when he's off if we don't go out, once it gets to 4/5pm he's off elsewhere in the house. If dd is elsewhere then never

boredwithfoodprob · 15/12/2024 21:30

Very occasionally we'll watch a film/TV together but with 2 teenagers and a 9 year old with differing tastes this is rare. We'll occasionally play a game together. Most nights we'll eat dinner together.

Humphreyshead · 15/12/2024 21:31

We eat dinner together every day.

Me, dh and dd (11) sit together a lot in the evenings. Ds (15) tends to stay in his room but will come in to the lounge very occasionally. Dd is starting to skulk off to her room a bit more in the evening, but mostly spends it with us.

Marine30 · 15/12/2024 21:31

DD14 will often sit with us and watch a film
or an episode of something - most days after school I would say. DS17 - never sadly. Changed when he got to about 11 or 12. I miss it 😢 We do all eat dinner together about 4x per week so all is not lost. I feel like boys get lost in gaming/sport/gym and are a bit less sociable - or could just be mine 😌.

Moonlightstars · 15/12/2024 21:32

3 teens and us manage to eat together about 4 times a week around the table and watch TV altogether very rarely. 4 of us often manage about once or twice a week and DH and I about 3 nights a week.

Mine is the same. It makes me sad, but then i remind myself how independent he is and that makes me happy

mambojambodothetango · 15/12/2024 21:33

Yes, for almost every evening meal and weekend lunchtimes. At the weekend we try to find something we will all want to watch- I'd say every few weeks we manage to find a film or series that we all enjoy. We watched Wonka, Enola Holmes and Clockwise together in recent weeks, and really enjoyed Race Across the World - even DH got into it by the end. Now younger DS is a bit older we also like Would I Lie To You.

Sandysandwich · 15/12/2024 21:34

We will all be in the same room most nights, not always watching the same thing, we might be reading or playing on our phone and a few of us watching the same thing.
Occasionally there will be something that everyone will watch.

buttonousmaximous · 15/12/2024 21:38

I have a 9 year old and a 23 year old. In the week 9 year old and I have breakfast and tea together. Dh eats later after work and dd does her own thing. But we often all hang out in the kitchen/living room between 6-8pm. Once ds is in bed dh and I will read or watch tv together. At a weekend we all eat evening meals together and will often play board games or watch a film together once ds is in bed.

FrangipaniBlue · 15/12/2024 21:39

Me, DH, DS(16) and Ddog currently all sat together in the living room.

I'd say every night at least for a part of it anyway.

Onetimeonly2024 · 15/12/2024 21:39

When the DSC were small? Always together. Now the DSC are grown and gone? Still always together. We have the space to be separate but neither of us choose to be.

Flatandhappy · 15/12/2024 21:40

DH and I always eat dinner together if we are both home then generally agree on where to sit after. It is Summer here at the moment so we generally eat outside and stay out reading/faffing around in iPads etc. until bedtime. If we decided to watch a film we would both go in and watch it. Adult kids at home will usually eat with us if they are in then wander off to do their own thing after (they clean up after dinner). Winter time they are more likely to eat separately from us as DH and I might eat on our laps which watching tv. DD will often join us but DS would prefer to play online games with his friends,

MinSpy · 15/12/2024 21:41

We do 'movie night' once a week when we all watch a movie together. We have dinner all together about 3 times a week, but the rest of the week DH has funny shifts and the children have various clubs and activities so we can't all eat together, sadly.

DC r year 6 and year 8.

Dramallama91 · 15/12/2024 21:42

Preschool age kids so not really on the sofa in the evening watching TV but we eat dinner around the table together everyday

theeyeofdoe · 15/12/2024 21:43

TV we watch one programme a week together.
we eat dinner together most nights and play board games together

Frigginfreezing · 15/12/2024 21:45

Sorry, I don’t necessarily mean watching tv, could be on phones etc, but just all sitting together on the sofa in the living room

Much the same here. We will do our own things during the day (older DC) but tend to have dinner at the table together and then sit in the same room in the evening. We might watch tv or a film or might be on phones, iPads, knitting etc. but we're all together.

summer3219 · 15/12/2024 21:51

Probably a couple of times a week, depending on hobbies and jobs but usually at least once as we have a regular film night. Possibly more if a series of something we all like is on. Just me and two older teens.

JingleB · 15/12/2024 21:55

Until they were about 16, most evenings for some of the time. We had a numbr of things we watching together, it was nice.

We still watch things together when they are home.

backawayfatty1 · 15/12/2024 21:56

DD15 - most weekdays after school then disappears. Out most of the weekend. DS13 - same & once the other two are in bed (he doesn't sleep as much). DS11 - any minute he isn't on his PS5, loves company! We have dinner together every night & have a movie night every other week

mumoftwo1981 · 15/12/2024 22:02

We have almost 17 year old twins and I would say we sit and watch tv together most evenings. Husband or kids might be out playing sports some evenings but generally, I'm never in front room watching telly on my own and when we're all in, we're mostly all together.
