Sunday hospital appointment needing cancelling

I have an appointment Sunday morning that I need to cancel as I am now unwell.
I have tried calling to cancel but the voicemail states they only operate their phone lines M-F 8.30-4.30..I called the main switchboard who advised me to just not turn up and call Monday to explain.
yet the original appointment letter tells me in great detail how much money a missed appointment costs the nhs and they may cancel me referral if I don’t attend?!!!
I have emailed but don’t have high hopes of it being seen by tomorrow.
Had anyone managed to get into contact with the correct department when it’s the weekend as I really don’t want to contribute to the NHS losing money for a no show

I rang the actual Clinic on the Sunday (day of appoitment) as needed to check something and they answered

Call the switchboard again and get the name of the person you spoke to, or a receipt number for the call. You have called, and can prove it.
