To Refuse To Stream ?

I don’t watch Netflix, Amazon TV or anything like that .

I’d rather we go back to the main 3 channels and have programmes along the same vein we had in the 80s

Terry and June
2 Ronnies
Fine Romance

etc etc and have programmes like Blue Peter and Jackanory on in the early evenings rather than the pointlessness of pointless !!

I do admit I do watch clips of old programmes on YouTube, I have watched BBCiPlayer, and also the ITV and Channel 5 equivalent internet catch up platforms .

ok admission - I did download the Netflix app and watch a bit of it in the past but have deleted it now and haven’t touched it for the past 2 years

so in short I admit I’m not a streaming virgin - I’m guilty as charged !

but should we just go back to the main 3 channels and have QUALITY programs on them -like Morcambe & Wise/Cannon & Ball etc!

I mean shall we just get some stones and try to dam this stream ?

in an ideal world literally the ONLY thing that would be streaming would be my eyes 🙌 🤣

I've given up on the three main channels, as they have so many repeats of all the old sitcoms, especially BBC. I watch waaayyy more on Netflix or Now.

Uricon2 · 11/12/2024 18:15

@Jumell , I don't think some of us who lived through more of that era at a somewhat older age feel quite the nostalgia for it you do Grin

Streaming is much, much better that a few hours of TV a day and looking at the test card.

Poppins21 · 11/12/2024 18:16

I wish the tv could read my mind and find me the perfect show to watch at that exact moment - as we spend far too long clicking through all the streaming services unable to find anything. I suppose it has replaced hours at blockbuster on a Saturday. But the choice can be overwhelming - but I would not want to go back to just 3 channels. I hated Sunday evenings with songs of praise and last of the summer wine on growing up.

AwakeNotThruChoice · 11/12/2024 18:17

I like the fact I can watch ‘my show’ at whatever time I want.

I used to like stuff that always came on at 9pm. With young kids often couldn’t keep awake until 10pm 😂

It is like everything, personal choice. However, I think there is too much choice and not enough quality.
I pay for a VPN, which means I can watch UK tv from Europe and a subscription to another "world" provider, which I will not renew next time as the amount of buffering and the quality of recordings are not good.

SaMMaxis170 · 11/12/2024 18:22

personally i prefer youtube and i use the itv x app, but other than that i prefer dvds of series or films with the extras etc

JaneGrint · 11/12/2024 18:29

The problem with just having 3 main channels with quality programming is that different people have different ideas about what counts as “quality”. It’d be impossible for people who make the TV schedules to come up with something that would satisfy everyone.

Thinking back to before streaming, there’s never been a time when the main 3 channels were filled with programs I wanted to watch - there’d be some of what I considered “quality”, but also plenty of stuff that I found dull or unwatchable.

The main thing I like about streaming is that I can watch what I want when I want. And I don’t see streaming as all that much different in principle to when I used to record a show I liked because it would be on TV when I was out.

But if you just want to watch live TV on the main channels then go for it.

"Quality tv" "Cannon and Ball"

🤣🤣

I never watch anything on the main channels anymore, give me Netflix, Disney and Apple TV any day.

RedRiverShore5 · 11/12/2024 18:38

DH doesn't stream, he just watches everything through Sky as he as done for the last 30 odd years, we got it when it first came out, he records things to watch later but always as they are shown never downloads anything, He never watches any streaming channel even though I have them all. He likes Vera and Midsummer Murders but won't watch them on ITVx just Sky and the one that's on.

Ok guys - THIS is what we should do.

we should and together and record a song entitled

”I don’t want to stream” to the tune of Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton’s ‘Islands in the Stream’

the lyrics would be as follows -

🎵🎶🎵 ‘ I don’t want to stream
blah blah blah blah blah
and we rely on the 3 main channels ..

A-HA…” 🎵🎶🎵

we would get to number one,be millionaires and be on all the chat shows etc!! 🙌🙌

GO US !! 💪
