Calllers saying I rang them - Should I be worried

This has happened twice now in two weeks. I've just had a call on my mobile saying that they missed a call from my number on their mobile. I haven't made any calls! I usually don't answer unknown calls but I'm expecting calls about my relative. I'm worried now that either it's a new scam to get a recording of my voice for AI or that someone is spoofing my number. I know it's sounds a unlikely but new scams take a while to be of common knowledge. Does anyone know if this is a thing? Once was weird but twice is a little unsettling.

I heard about a voice scam on an episode of You and Yours on Radio 4, so it's possible.

This is happening to me too.. I assumed it is a scam where someone has cloned my number or something?

Goawayquickly · 10/12/2024 12:57

This has happened to me several times in the last month. Number spoofing I won't answer from an unknown number now, if it's genuine they can leave a message

puzzledlife · 10/12/2024 12:58

Oh and one person who rang me was clearly as confused as me so I don't think it's a voice thing

I'd suspect a scam too. Do not engage in any way. Just delete and forget about it. They probably try 1000s of numbers at random, so it's not specific to yours.

Scammers use random numbers to ring people, I dont know how they do it but it happens all the time. I had a few calls from people saying they had missed calls from me, I told them it must be a scam and to report and block my number.

Actually I have done that. I called a number that came up as missed on my phone and had a chat with a very confused bloke who said he had his phone in front of him all afternoon and certainly didn't call me. I advised him to contact his network as his number was evidently cloned.
I am not a scammer, nor AI. I'd be careful and get in touch with your network.

Happened to me too. My mobile provider thought it was probably scammers using my number to mask their actual one. Apparently they have software they can input any number into to disguise theirs. It stopped after about a week and there was no impact on me. Suggest reporting to your provider and keeping a close eye on your bank/credit record. Also set a spend cap for your mobile if you don’t already have one.
