To think Chewbacca should have got a medal?

Just watched A New Hope for the 157th time but I've only just realised that Chewie doesn't get a medal. He follows Han and Luke up the carpet and up the stairs only for Leia to give Han and Luke a medal but not Chewie. Maybe that's why he roars.

Not to mention all the other rebel pilots who got fuck all.

IABU - He's only a Wookiee after all.
IANBU - Yes, he should have got a medal.

Chewie was robbed. You are not BU at all.

There is a line in the Ready Player One Book where the character says something like “Han and Luke get a medal and Chewbacca, you may recall, gets the shaft.” Makes me chuckle. It’s very true! Poor Chewie.

Thanks, I was a massive Star Wars fan in my teens and can't believe I've only just noticed he didn't get a medal. Maybe I was too focussed on Harrison Ford, even though he's old enough to be my dad.

Meanwhile, whilst they are busy giving out medals, Star destroyers are on the way to Yavin having learnt about the destruction of the Death Star.

Now onto TESB on ITV2, the Tauntauns are real Ray Harryhausen stuff, I'm glad they haven't ruined it with re-mastering.

As an aside my DB has a friend who was in the Norwegian army and had a very small bit part as a stormtrooper on Hoth.

I always assumed he got a medal! Why else would he be there.

I have seen that film sooooooo many times (and twice in the past week) and can't believe I've only just noticed.

I was highly indignant when I realised too! Still love Star Wars...

I always assumed it was actually because Chewbacca was three feet taller than Princess Leia and there wasn't a way to do it without it looking silly in the film. She'd have had to have climbed a stepladder or something.

Poor Chewie always got overlooked 😪 absolutely loved him.

My 6yo DC watched ANH last weekend and was thoroughly indignant that Chewie didn't get a medal.

he doesn’t get one as he owes Hans Solo a life debt, so declined it, I believe.

Considering the fuss he makes about losing at chess I'm sure he'd have let them know if he was unhappy about not getting a medal!

Surely he could have stood down a step, or bowed so Leia could put it on him. Or they could have just cut it so you saw Leia lifting a medal, then Chewie turning round with the medal on.

@frankie001 But how would getting a medal from the Rebel Alliance have any bearing on his debt to Han? Surely Han would be glad for Chewie to get a medal, he's his best mate?
