AIBU to sell an item that's been refunded?

This is totally minor, but for some reason I feel very conflicted about this.

I ordered a Rhode phone case, emailed them because I didn't like the colour and they sent me a link to their returns portal. I filled it in and they said to keep it, but they're refunding it.

So now I'm getting the money back but have a phone case that won't be used. My friend has suggested I stick it on vinted, but that just feels a bit wrong - they've refunded me so selling it on feels bad.

AIBU to sell it?

I'd sell it, they've said they don't want it back

cavachonqueen0504 · 07/12/2024 15:31

Sorry this doesnt answer your question but how did you find it ordering from Rhode? Did it take a while to come? I found it unusual that Rhode isn’t stocked anywhere else.

I probably would sell it on aswell op however at a discounted price

Sell it on eBay for charity

Printedword · 07/12/2024 15:32

I would take it to a charity shop or bin it. Whilst the latter seems wasteful it might make you feel like no profit is made on the item. The thing with actual returns is that they do often get discarded by the store/vendor.

AllTangledUpInTinselAndTiaras · 07/12/2024 15:32

Why on earth would you feel guilty about that? They don't care what you do with it so why should you?

I've ordered quite a few times from them and they're amazing.

This is the second customer service "win" I've had with them, I had a lip tint that came out clear at first and was a bit grainy, and they sent me a brand new one free of charge. I ordered the limited edition drop on Wednesday and it arrived today!

I think they're only sold on their store because Sephora etc would take a huge chunk of their profits.

If I sell on it'll definitely be £15 max!!

Essentially you've been given something you won't use. It's totally fine to sell it.

Because they've refunded me, so it feels a bit disingenuous 😅

What do you think would be better than? To chuck it in the bin? Or give it away? Why? Who actually cares. I can’t believe this is taking up head space for you.

Do whatever you want. Move on with life. No one cares.

Freecycle Gumtree olio?

RandomUsernameHere · 07/12/2024 15:40

It's fine, they said you didn't need to return it so it's yours to do as you please with.

Tink3rbell30 · 07/12/2024 15:41

Donate it.

RobertaFirmino · 07/12/2024 15:57

Sell it now and donate the money to a Christmas appeal.

LookingForAHandHold · 07/12/2024 16:33

Thanks everyone. I've put it on vinted for £20, I just felt so guilty about selling it on!

LigamentBandy · 07/12/2024 16:33

Well give it away if it makes you feel guilty? @LookingForAHandHold

I've messaged everyone I know but they've said they don't want it! I was genuinely expecting them to come back and say to send it back

IrritableVowel · 07/12/2024 16:39

They refunded you without asking for it back because it would cost them more to process the return. You aren't "cheating" them out of any money, so don't feel any guilt about selling it on.

Tink3rbell30 · 07/12/2024 16:57

If you feel guilty then donate to charity.

stargazerlil · 07/12/2024 20:20

Stop feeling ashamed of your self and sell the damned thing.
