I’m quite unwell at the moment, gall bladder surgery is scheduled soon. It’s been going on for over a year now.

I’ve noticed my hair has lost all condition and I’m shedding loads. It is noticeably thinner and every time I comb or brush it, the amount of hair coming out is really worrying.

Can anyone advise me on how to stop this or even reassure me that it is a temporary issue?

Nettle shampoo or buy nettle tea and make hair mask

Shirtella · 06/12/2024 19:43

No, I’ll ask though.

L'Occitane strength & volume shampoo worked wonders for me.

I had my earlier post deleted as it wouldn't let me edit it again.

Just to say, if you have your levels checked, make sure they do a full blood count and check your ferritin levels too.

Shirtella · 06/12/2024 20:14

L’Occitane is going on the shopping list!

I will certainly ask for this from my Doctor, Spider.

If it helps, OP, I take Ferrous Sulfate 200mg once a day, which you can get over the counter at boots or any pharmacy. I also take a multivitamin (Pregnacare pre conception). I've seen a noticeable difference in a couple of months.

Ferritin levels definitely.
Unfortunately also genes and age. My mum has extremely thin hair and as I approach 40, mine is going much the same way. Not helped by the fact that I am on immune suppressors which contribute to hair loss. It really gets me down.

It took approx 2 months to start seeing regrowth. But after that it was amazing. I went back to my hairdresser after a year & she couldn't believe how much better my hair looked. I'm now 2 years on and my hair is thick & healthy again. I was also taking Super complex vitamin B which I believe helped. I use this Linden's one. Available on eBay.
