White Elephant / Dirty Santa

So we played this at work. Lots of switching happens. My name is pulled last and I swap out my gift for another 'better' gift. We were told to limit to £5-£10. The next day the girl I work with called me selfish and was really confrontational about me switching gifts, said I should be ashamed etc, said don't i think everyone wanted what I got. FYI it was only a cheap massage thing. I have been in tears about it, its made me feel shitty at work and has caused me to be ineffective and have anxiety about the whole issue. My boss thinks I just played the game, its just her who seems to want an audience to say how wrong I was to do it. She has tried to cause trouble for me, and someone has now mysteriously bought the person I had the gift off the identical gift again. AIBU to feel annoyed.
Today she has been doing this odd teeth chattering thing, I'm really lost to know what the hell is going on.
I have told my boss to never include me in games that have an agenda. She is after promotion by the way!

She sounds like a brat, tell her it's a game and you don't want to hear any more about it or you'll go to HR and let them deal with it. It's literally the point of the game!

SwanRivers · 05/12/2024 17:17

You've actually been crying over this??

BeensOnToost · 05/12/2024 17:20

Urgh, dint get anxious, tell her tonstip embarrassing herself and roll your eyes.

Boss is onside so let's get some perspective here: an adult is acting like a whiny little baby over a £10 secret santa. I wouldn't put up with that from my 5 years old, never mind a colleague. I'd buy her a box of tissues 🖕

hazelnutlatte · 05/12/2024 17:23

We used to do this game at work (or something very similar) and if you're the last person then you get the pick of the gifts, that's how the game works! I'm sure everyone else realises that and thinks the idiot who is annoyed at you is very immature

nervousnellylikesjaffacakes · 05/12/2024 17:50

Ummm... that's the entire point of white elephant secret santa. It is a fun game where you could get something really shitty or something as a good as a fiver permits. Ignore her. If she keeps behaving like a knob print out the rules and explain that it is white elephant, not plain secret santa. Enjoy your gift.

Spondoolies · 05/12/2024 17:51

She’s a nasty dickhead. Can anyone who plays this game tell me what rules they follow, we do a family one at Christmas but I’m not sure we do it right!

edited to add my 4 and 9 year old DC play it and even they don’t have a sulk about getting the worst gifts

Ablondiebutagoody · 05/12/2024 18:24

Stop crying and tell her to fuck off
