Is NOT for children!!

I've seen a few threads where people have said that they've bought their children the Wicked book. If it's the original Wicked book by Gregory Maguire, it's definitely not a children's book and says it's 18+. I only found this out as I looked at it today online to buy for my friend for Christmas and saw some comments about some of the themes and it's definitely not for children. Just wanted to give anyone who's bought it a heads up. Obviously if you have got a different copy, ignore this Smile

Oh yeah. 100% adult only reading 😂 DS picked up my copy and asked to read it at bedtime - there was no way 🫠

@LittleRedRidingHoody I thought it was pretty misleading because the cover is the same as the film, which is not 'adult-themed'. I was really surprised.

Yep, read it when it first came out (90's?). It's pretty dark. I doubt most kids could get past the first few pages though, even if they tried. It's clearly a book for adults and as such is quite wordy and not very much happens to start with.

I don’t think it’s that inappropriate really, it depends on the age. I read it back in school when I was about 13/14 and so did a few friends. I certainly wouldn’t say it’s only for over 18s.

I read it after going to see the musical in 2006. What a disappointment! Very dry, very dark and a bit too long. Is it some kind of Holocaust allegory?!

CyranoDeBergerQuack · 05/12/2024 09:30

Oooh! I hadn't realised there was a book. I just thought some fool had jumped on the (crap) musicals bandwagon.
After reading a synopsis of it, I'm off to buy a copy!
