To remove first choice of secondary school

DD is 10.
We let her choose her 1st choice for secondary school and applied on Halloween. We chose a back up plan for second choice though DD was adament she didn't want to go to the second choice school.
A few days ago she changed her mind and decided she didn't want to go to the school she'd put as her first choice after all. We contacted the LEA and removed her first choice before 1st December.
She now wants to go to the second choice school.
Now that we've removed her first choice, will the second choice of school automatically now become her first choice?
Or will it now look like we've put no first choice, and only a second choice?
We didn't put a 3rd choice.

Please reconsider having only one option. You should put down as many choices as you're allowed. Should you not get offered the only school you've applied for the LA need only find a place for your daughter somewhere in their district. That could be any school, in any area. If you reject that offer you'll need to home school or pay for private schooling as they have no further obligation to find her a place.

I thought closing deadline was end of october? I’m surprised they’ve made any changes. But Pp was right, you should put down all options you’d find acceptable (with at least one you’d definitely get) to avoid the risk of getting a worse option!

I don't think it makes any difference, the places don't get allocated based on whether they were a first or second choice. If you don't get your first you will be considered for your second on an equal basis as everyone who put that one first.
