I thought I'd escaped the virus

So I feel like I'm finally getting one of the many viruses doing the rounds after thinking I'd escaped them all. My cheeks are warm, I'm exhausted and I just haven't felt right all night. Numerous viruses and colds are doing the rounds at work, and one of our DDs has a mild cold.

This is exactly what I want right when I have a full weekend planned!

Anyone else want to join my pity party? It's BYOB(of cough syrup!)

Sorry girl, we've just recovered from covid (my first time having it, can't believe it)

It's so horrible - get the vicks out and defo indulge in some self pity and a tv binge x

You did well escaping it for so long! Pleased you're out the other side now.

That sounds like an excellent plan - never have my cheeks flushed before the onset of a cold, so bizarre x

Dropping like flies at work and Sunday/ Monday I had all the signs and felt terrible. Lemsipping like crazy. By Tuesday felt ok and now I'm perfectly well.

Fingers crossed yours is a come and go virus too.

KoalaCalledKevin · 28/11/2024 22:48

My DDs have both had a horrible virus, and now DH has it and sounds awful (congested, cough etc). I'm hoping I've dodged it as I have an exam next week! Must remember not to book winter exams when I have pre school children!

merryandbrightdelight · 29/11/2024 10:11

@AndThereSheGoes thank you! Pleased you managed to fight it off, so many people are poorly with it at the minute

Oh no! I hope they all get well soon, and best of luck for your exam!

I hear you. DH and I both finally caught covid a couple of months ago and it took at least a month to fully recover.

MoreCoffeePlease78 · 29/11/2024 10:18

I got this 3 weeks ago… 4 days after quite a big abdominal operation 🫣 it was hell and I’ve only really just fully recovered this week from it. I hope you feel better soon OP! X

SeaToSki · 29/11/2024 10:20

Try the first defense nasal spray stuff…my DSis says it really works

Did you test?

I'm almost sure I've had covid. The cough is lingering which is keeping me and my poor DH awake at night. I slept in a different room last night and he could still hear me.

@merryandbrightdelight hope you feel better soon.

You know, I didn't, but we had the slight cough and I completely lost my sense of smell for two weeks

I'm sorry, my cough didn't last too long though, only a few days. I'm up to date with the covid jabs so it could've been worse

Thank you 🥺 - 😅 I don't get out enough tbh

I'm sorry, i know it's not nice x

shellyleppard · 29/11/2024 10:27

I had it ended up with antibiotics....chest and sinus infection. Youngest son had it first....but it completely missed his brother 😁🤣

blobby10 · 29/11/2024 10:30

I use Echinacea drops (not the tablets) periodically throughout the autumn and winter months and haven't had a cold for years - watch me go down with a stonker of a cold now! As soon as I start to feel run down, I take 15 drops in as little water as I can face, morning and evening - it tastes like pond water but only briefly on your tongue. It worked brilliantly when my children were small and bringing home colds all the time - they took it as teens and were rarely ill.

I will add that I don't have small people around anymore, don't socialise and work mostly on my own so its probably as much to do with that as the Echinacea but it might be worth trying for some of you.

Odiebay · 29/11/2024 10:35

Yep had COVID 2 weeks ago, then a migraine for 8 days now I have the flu. I am sick of being sick!!!! My fourth weekend of not being able to do anything.

Cestfoutu · 29/11/2024 11:04

This is day 3 of lying on the sofa exhausted and blowing my nose literally non-stop. I look like Rudolph. Thrown up as well. Had enough now.

lochmaree · 29/11/2024 12:00

I'm on day 12 of something awful, horrendous cough (worst cough since I had whooping cough 20 years ago!) and generally feel absolutely rubbish. DS1 is on week 4 of the cough, saw the nurse on Wednesday and she said it's croup.

Dishwashersaurous · 29/11/2024 12:32

Does anyone have tips to speed up getting rid of it?

Take high dose vit d, c and zinc for 5 days. If you are early on in the process then try the first defense nasal spray

XmasNameChangeFail · 29/11/2024 13:03

I was struck down with a lurgy on Wednesday. Just starting to feel a bit better today, although zero energy. I rarely take time off work sick, but this totally floored me for 48 hours - fever, shivering, cough, constant sneezing. I went from feeling fine to bed bound in about 2 hours. Bloody annoying!

BeMintBee · 29/11/2024 13:06

Yup just started coming down with it and as usual any virus always triggers a migraine so that’s extra fun. Big family get together arranged for the weekend too 🥴

BigHoops · 29/11/2024 13:20

Yep, another one succumbing over here! Trying to head it off but given the amount of illness I've been surrounded with at work this week, I'm not hopeful. And such a fun weekend planned too. Ugh. Hope we all feel better soon!

WhappleBee · 29/11/2024 13:20

I started getting a sore throat, tiredness and losing my voice on Saturday, I got married on Sunday (voice gave out totally by end of the night) and I’ve only just started feeling better and being able to talk today! Wishing everyone well as it sucks!

DazedAndConfused2024 · 29/11/2024 13:48

I’ve been having the hot sweats and feeling exhausted but testing negative for Covid. It’s all very draining

inigomontoyahwillcox · 29/11/2024 14:22

Yep, had various viruses for 2 months now, got tonsillitis at the beginning of last week, had antibiotics and maybe 2 days of respite before coming down with full blown flu on Tuesday. Honestly felt like death, temp of 39 not responding to paracetamol, head felt like it was in a vice - the usual. Now on the phone to the docs as the cough has got a lot worked and bring in up loads of nasty stuff. I've had form for weird and wonderful chest infections since childhood so a bit worried that's where it's heading.
