Anyone celebrating Xmas just not the 25th?

My dh has to work on Christmas Day. I was slightly disappointed but hey ho it is what it is. It means all the usual lot we normally have over have chosen to flee to their ILs. And it has been agreed we will celebrate on the 28th. I’m fine with that.

It does mean I am alone on Christmas Day. People have been gracious to invite me to other meals but it would involve long drives and I would prefer to welcome dh home (even if with just KFC).

It will be the first Christmas Day that I don’t really celebrate. I do plan to buy new posh pjs, my favourite treats and snuggle with the dogs watching rom coms.

i feel like the celebration on the 28th won’t feel special

Is anyone else in a similar situation?

But that's because we are conditioned to thinking like that but realistically once you all get together on the 28th you'll forget the date and just enjoy the family celebration.

I'm a nurse so I'm used to a bit of flexibility around Christmas. It doesn't matter to me if it's not the exact day, it still feels special.

Is your dh working away? On a 24 hour shift?

I’m working Christmas. We don’t postpone or pick another day, it just works round my shift.

so if I’m earlies we’ll do presents etc when I get home, and have a nice dinner in the evening. The kids might open one or two presents with their dad in the morning, or face time me if I get a break.

lates we do usual morning presents then have an early dinner before I go. Nights I’ll get a couple of hours kip then then we have the rest of the day.

will you be on your own the full 24 hours?

Dh is a pilot. So will be away the entire day. Leaving at 6 am and coming home just before 11pm. I think it’s odd people fly Christmas Day but whatever. Maybe if I had kids I would make the effort to go to one of siblings’ homes.
