To complain - father's details asked on a form

I have been a sole parent since 2014 - sole custody
ExH is a bit useless and when we were together I had to sort out everything - now his mum does this for him - anyway...

Today I was sent a form to receive a very important service for DD and the form asked for father's telephone number and father's email - ONLY - usually the practice is to ask for both parents' or carer's isn't it?

Thankfully it was a word form so I edited to 'mother's telephone number and mother's email - yes I'm petty like that

Honestly even if we were still together, if the company had my exH's email and tel number and had to liaise with him, DD would probably not receive the service because he would either not open the email or ignore any calls

I complained and asked them to update the form
AIBU?

Definitely complain!

JC03745 · 20/11/2024 00:22

Was the form from the 1950's??? Ridiculous. Unless it relates to something solely about the father and required his, exclusive signature etc, you are right to complain.

Garedenhelp · 20/11/2024 00:33

Is it because they already have your details?

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 20/11/2024 00:34

What's the service?

EssentiallyItsTrue · 20/11/2024 00:37

What was the service. It's seems very odd.

Totally reasonable to complain, what a bizarre form. Is there anything specific that relates to fathers? (Although I’m struggling to think what that could be!)

they didn't because the form was forwarded to me by the a service contracted by the council

the company is an exam centre so DD will go there to sit an exam

Absolutely nothing that relates to fathers
They just needed contact details for an adult responsible for the person they will provide the service for

Ohh, I'd be furious!
I would totally have changed the wording too and complained.
Well done to you!

I wonder if there was some error and a previous customer edited the form like you as they were putting the father’s details in and wanted to specify that and then for some reason that form was used as a template without realising the change? A bit convoluted but seems bizarre someone would choose that. Or there was supposed to be a section for the mother’s details but it was accidentally deleted. Those are my theories 😂

pyjamalife · 20/11/2024 05:43

Tbh, I would have thought it would have said "mother" if it was being stereotypical as we all know it's the women who sort out these types of things (I organise them or continue to remind my husband to do them on his days off, since he works shifts, but I do still get all the emails and texts). I, also, find it bizarre it states Father and agree with the suggestions above that it's an error based on someone prior.

Yes this was my theory too!

Oh god. I'm with my kids dad but he's military so school and the dr have me and my mum as NOK.

Nottodaygoaway · 20/11/2024 06:26

What's wrong with "parent's contact details"? I'd complain too!
