do you go camping/outdoor sports? help!

hi all

we have a dc who plays football so we spend a lot of time outside in the cold at training/matches supporting dc.

we currently have some basic cheap camping chairs which are falling apart and it’s dh birthday next week so i thought it would be a good time to upgrade us to some better equipment (dh attends more then me as its a lot with toddler and baby to go 4 times a week).

so if there is anyone who goes camping or does outdoor stuff and can give me abit of insight into what might be good please help?

i was thinking of a new chair and some kind of waterproof blanket? also i have seen some electric hand warmers that you recharge - has anyone tried these? are the fancy padded chairs worth the extra money? anything i havnt thought of that could be good outside?

blanket

he doesn’t drink hot drinks so i won’t bother with a thermos flask but if anyone has any other suggestions or recommendations please share!

thank you! 😁

Also depending on budget, it’s worth looking at glove and sock liners which are good for cold feet - merino is the best but pricey.

PS The rechargeable hand warmers that you boil to recharge are fairly cheap and very effective IMO - got me through a winter film shoot wearing not enough clothes!

Fishermen are good for advice. They spend a lot of time sitting outside in the cold. Most other outdoors people spend a lot of time moving around outside which is totally different.

Cricketer I was chatting to during a long cold afternoon on the outfield told me the rechargeable hand warmers are a universe better than the ones which you have to boil to recharge, and which release their heat if they get bent suddenly, not always at the time you want them.

Decathlons hunting section is great- the lined trousers are warm, water resistant but not shiny, so a good alternative to jeans but very warm.

My husband would be wmbarssed to be seen with a blanket, get him a proper waterproof and warm coat, heat tech thermal leggings and top, decent warm boots. But if he’s like my husband he doesn’t want to look like he’s ski-ing etc, so more understated warmth .

I go camping quite a lot and have this chair from Alpkit together with an insulated cover you can buy separately. It’s quite cosy but small! They do a bigger version but not sure if you can get a cover for it.

I like the Vegas chairs. Go outdoors stock them but I've also seen them elsewhere. Really comfortable and there are no gaps so the act a a wind break if you turn your back to the wind.

They're not light and a little on the bulky side but unless I'm wildcampingi they come with me every where.

You can't prowl up and down the touchline with a blanket. I would just recommend a decent parka type coat. The kind you can wear in sub zero temps with just a t-shirt underneath. Total game changer.

Fleece lined waterproof trousers and decent waterproof coat.

We regularly spend time away in our camper, and upgraded our very old outdoor chairs this year. Try these, lightweight, very comfy (we tried lots of chairs at different stores, these were by far the best, you might need to get a go outdoors discount card, but worth it)

Can also highly recommend GorillaRobe waterproof robes. We are wild swimmers, so these roomy, waterproof, fleece lined warm coats are brilliant. I wear mine all the time in heavy rain and very cold days. You can get changed in one, so ideal for changing from kit to clothes on cold days.
