To flick the internet switch off

Late teen DS. Waiting for him to get in the shower so I can sleep (bathroom next to my room) but "he's in a game"

I dont give two shits about his game tbh, I'm poorly and would like to go to sleep

Of course that's unreasonable. What's not unreasonable is to say that if he's having a shower tomorrow evening is that he does it before he starts gaming. And earplugs tonight.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/11/2024 22:20

The 'of course' here is that he's being unreasonable not having a bit of consideration for his poorly mother for the sake of a game.

YANBU. But you do need to grow a backbone - it’s your house, so it’s your rules. Tell your DS that quiet hours in the house are now 9pm-7am (or whatever hours you generally need to sleep) which includes no showering, and that wifi will be turned off during that period.

Agix · 18/11/2024 07:36

YANBU at all. You wouldn't be amiss to just flick the Internet off at all, but be prepared for a lot of anger. Depending what game it is, it could feel like life or death for him - ranked match, group raid.

Perhaps turn the WiFi off during the time you expect him to have a shower etc? Like say, I'm turning yhe WiFi off between the hours of 6pm and 7pm every day, so you can have a shower then without veing distracted by games. That's just if you want to give him the freedom to game later than when you go to bed.

I've been known to just switch the PS5 off at the wall.

I think you could give due warning- tonight I need you to be through the shower by 10 pm so can you stop gaming at 9.30. Then turn the router off at 9.30.

MrsSunshine2b · 18/11/2024 13:50

Of course not. And change the security code whilst you're at it.

House rule of all showers before 9PM?

Oreosareawful · 18/11/2024 13:53

This is default in our house. If the boy does not react to 'its dinner time' 'its time for a shower' or 'its time for bed' we simply turn off the router.

He just showers in the morning if he's not in and out by xpm
