Hello everyone. Which is everyone’s preference? Mine is Camille, however I am worried about the different pronounciations!

do you hear the French or English pronunciation when you hear the name?

many thanks!

I love Camille & don’t like Camilla.

Mlanket · 15/11/2024 06:14

I’ve only ever heard Camille pronounced Kuh meel.

Zanatdy · 15/11/2024 06:15

Camile - i think most people can pronounce it

Zanatdy · 15/11/2024 06:15

Mlanket · 15/11/2024 06:14

I’ve only ever heard Camille pronounced Kuh meel.

That’s how I would pronounce too, never heard of any other options

Talapia · 15/11/2024 06:16

I think they are both beautiful underused names.

I’ve only ever heard Camille pronounced Kuh meel.

It's a gorgeous name and I'd pronounce like this. Never heard another way.

upat4am · 15/11/2024 06:21

Love Camille. I would pronounce it ca-mill

VanillaPlanifolia · 15/11/2024 06:22

Ca-mill

SunnyHappyPeople · 15/11/2024 06:27

Camile and pronounce it the French way, not the common way!

EVHead · 15/11/2024 06:39

Camille could be said several different ways, which would annoy you and the child!

Camilla makes me think of the queen.

Pleasecancelchristmas · 15/11/2024 06:39

I'm not very keen on Camilla as a name but Camille is just beautiful.

It's just so evocative of the lovely camellia flowers with their wonderful smell and also the Dumas novel " The lady of the Camellias" which was known as " Camille."

I've never heard Camille pronounced any other way than with the French pronunciation.

SprigatitoYouAndIKnow · 15/11/2024 08:27

I don't like Camilla due to someone I didn't like as a child. Camile is nicer. I would pronounce it Cam-eel.

SensibleSigma · 15/11/2024 08:31

Camille to me is pronounced Cammy.
Maybe Ca-meel.

Not ‘Kuh’, ‘Ca’ like Camel.

Definitely emphasis on first syllable.

So I’d say there will be lots of ‘wrong’ pronunciations, whichever way you pronounce it!

KimberleyClark · 15/11/2024 08:36

Camille is interestingly a unisex name in France and French speaking countries.

I've never heard it pronounced this way, I'd pronounce it ca-meel

Manchesterbythesea · 15/11/2024 08:39

I love both! If I had to pick one then it’s Camille. So pretty. I would have pronounced it Ca-mill ( not camel!) but maybe that’s incorrect.

lovelysunshine22 · 15/11/2024 08:43

Camilla...camille sounds pretentious or silly unless you are french.

CoffeeGood · 15/11/2024 09:07

I love Camille, I think because I love Camille Bordey, a character in Death in Paradise. Pronounced Ca-meel.

Mlanket · 15/11/2024 09:39

Camille to me is pronounced Cammy.

🤔

I thought it was a boys name that girls nicked but like Aubrey or Harper ?

Ca-MEE, in a French accent, I think is what that poster was getting at!

I don't like either tbh. And Camille in a strong London accent where the L is kind of swallowed (it has a name I can't pinpoint at the mo) would be horrible.

TheKeatingFive · 15/11/2024 15:13

I know two Camille's - gorgeous name. Pronounced Ca-meel
