To despair we'll ever move house?!

We've been house hunting for months. Two sales have fallen through after we've had offers accepted - one pretty far down the line. A few perfect houses that went under offer within days, despite us booking to see them (viewings were just cancelled). It feels like my heart has been broken so many times because I can't help getting invested each and every time. Our buyer is on the verge of pulling out leaving us having to put our house on the market again, pushing back our house purchase even further. Am I wrong in thinking that an offer should be legally binding and not just a placeholder until they get a better offer? It's just shit. It seems like a fluke that anyone actually moves house at all.

If you really want to move out go into rented or it’d it’s just that the chain isn’t going to match go into Airbnb that’s what we did - we found the perfect house and had the best position because we weren’t waiting for a chain cost a blinking fortune though

It's awkward because we've got young kids and want to avoid moving schools too many times. We'll have to move them when we move house, but want to avoid doing it more times than necessary. Rental properties are hard to come by in that area.
