Balsam Hill Tree is misleading

After years of eyeing up the BH trees, we dropped a few hundred quid on a 6ft tree.

Got it out the box to put it up / ensure it’s ok today and I don’t know if I’ve completely misunderstood something but it is not as tall as they say.

Firstly, it says 6ft (180cm). That’s not 6ft… how can you give two different measurements?

Next, it looks short, DH is 6ft and he was far taller so of course we got out the tape measure and it’s 173cm.

Am I missing something?? I wouldn’t care if it wasn’t literally hundreds of pounds. I’m annoyed but also unsure if I’m being pedantic.

Is there a stand it's meant to fit on? Quite a lot of trees give the height including the stand.
Bugger, didn't mean to quote the entire first post - sorry everyone!

Doggymummar · 10/11/2024 17:01

Ours is ten years old and looks as good as new. Size includes the stand. Also have you pulled out the topper?

Doggymummar · 10/11/2024 17:07

Christmas tree including its stand. All Balsam Hill standard Christmas tree sizes are calculated by measuring the tree stand to the topmost tip. This is what it says in the measuring guide.

Luckingfovely · 10/11/2024 17:09

Mine's the exact height - again, as long as it's put up fully and correctly.

JustinThyme · 10/11/2024 17:09

180cm is 6 foot - well, 182 more exactly, but it’s normal to round up or down to a round figure.

The measurements usually include stand and topper.

The fact that there is a FaceBook page entirely about Balsam Hill complaints, says a lot about this company.

Trybto get them to accept a return and refund, Trading Standards might help, then get one from one of the reputable firms. I like Christmas Tree World. Ours from them is excellent and both DHs were impressed enough to buy theirs as well.

JMSA · 10/11/2024 17:38

I have a BH tree. Truth is, it's no more impressive than a tree bought elsewhere.

HootyMcBooby · 10/11/2024 17:41

Second Christmas Tree World, we got a 6ft mountain pine from them about 10 years ago, still looks great, and very very realistic shape.

lasagnelle · 10/11/2024 17:47

Does it come with a stand?

VegTrug · 10/11/2024 18:00

Our M&S 7ft pre lit tree is amazzzzing! You don’t have to unfurl any of the branches as they’re all on steel branches on hinges! so they just pop out when you put each section of the tree on, it’s bliss. Also, the main pole is a ‘power pole’ so you don’t need to worry about connecting the lights on each section of the tree as it does itself. So no fiddling with lights (unless you want to add extra) and the tree itself is built within seconds. Best tree I’ve ever bought and should last a lifetime

I'm going to look for that!

Yes it’s 173cm from the bottom of the stand (the floor) to the very tip of the tree! Maybe ours is just mislabelled

Have you uncurled the bit at the top? If so the I'd complain. They've diddled you out of at least 5cm of tree
