Mouth ulcer on throat

I'm quite prone to mouth ulcers when unwell or run down. They are painful but manageable. However I've got one on the back of my throat right now and it's making me feel really shit. Headaches and earache as well as the localised pain in the throat. I initially thought I was starting with a sore throat/cold bug until I had a look with a torch and lo and behold it's right there.

Can't really use anything topical like bonjela due to where it is. Salt water rinses don't seem to be doing a lot and I'm maxing out paracetamol. Can't take ibuprofen as it upsets my stomach.

Any other tips to manage it? Just feel like I want to sleep.

If you get more, see the doctor. It could be a Streptococcal infection requiring antibiotics. I agree, it's agonising. Keep well hydrated, because once the ulcers proliferate it gets hard even to drink water.

You need Difflam Sore Throat Rinse, from the pharmacist. It's magical stuff, the only thing that reduces the pain from mouth ulcer for more than five minutes (looking at you, bonjela)

Got this when I had sores in my throat due to hand foot and mouth - it was a godsend

Go to your pharmacy. They should have mouthwashes and/or sprays for ulcers or pain in the throat. Hopefully, you'll find an emergency one open - or maybe one of the ones in a big supermarket?

If it is any consolation, for years I used to get a crop of mouth ulcers with every virus that hit me. It was agonising. Then they just stopped. Very rarely had a mouth ulcer in the last couple of decades. That's why I can't recommend a specific product, unfortunately.

Cross posted! There you go, I'm sure it was Difflam I used to use.
