Dazzling fairy lights

I used to love seeing all the fairy lights at Christmas but in recent years I have come to dread them.
The new led lights are all so bright, they dazzle in a blinding way instead of twinkling prettily.
I guess some younger people might not remember lights that lit up the trees etc without causing night blindness.

YABU - don't see a problem and love the lights
YANBU - totally agree, this isn't lovely

I’m fine with all of them except the blue ones - some of the houses down here you have to try and remember it is just Christmas lights otherwise you end up stopping at the passing place for a non existent emergency vehicle.
Edit to add - it’s a single track lane.

All the lights these days are too bright, headlights on cars included

But yeah, lights should twinkle, not blind

LEDs are strange, they are bright but they don’t seem to shed light.

I have quite a lot of ‘fairy’ lights in the house . I paint the ‘bulbs’, including the little blobs on wire, with acrylic or water colour to mute the tones, it makes then much more pleasant. It is NOT dangerous, as they don’t emit heat.

Yes to car headlights! Not sure how they're even legal tbh.

It's so so dangerous, honestly

The blue ones are awful. My next door neighbour puts blue lights EVERYWHERE !! front of house, the Christmas tree, back garden and they're all on the fastest flashing setting!! Apart from thinking there's an ambulance outside, it actually flashes inside my house, I've black out curtains but the flashing gets in from the gap around the curtains, she puts hers up usually next week and doesn't take them down until first week in Feb. ✂️✂️✂️✂️ I rarely open my curtains in December

Totally agree op, they're way too dazzling these days, and I don't like flashing ones either. The ones that just emit a steady warm glow are the most festive, imho.

I'm with you OP.
Can't bare the LED's - much prefer the softer, older fairy lights. Hard to find now.

It's like everything else in modern life, everything has to be bigger, better, brighter etc.
I've noticed more and more Christmas decorations in bright garish colours (they make the 80's Christmas look positively muted by comparison!)
I remember sitting next to the Christmas tree as a child with the coal fire going and all of the little twinkly lights shimmering away. I think if I was sat next to a modern tree I would have got a headache!

If you Google pickwick lights they come up, the proper ones are £££ though!
