To ask how the police handled this?

A friend wants to report a crime that happened 3 months ago. I can't talk about the crime or the reason it has taken 3 months as would be outing. She is currently in an area covered by the Met but the crime occurred in the Midlands. How do the police handled this? Does it get handled by the Met or passed to the force that covers the crime area?

Usually the local force would deal with the initial report and then hand it off to the force in the area that the crime happened.
However if the crime involves serious organised crime, certain types of fraud, terrorism etc they are handed of to the specific police groups that deal with those offences.
