New neighbour’s booming voice

I’m in a semi detached and a new neighbour has moved in next door, a single man who has one of the LOUDEST booming voices I have heard.

I feel a bit bad saying that as I think he may have a health condition as he also speaks quite slowly. He has knocked on the door to introduce himself and he seems friendly and nice which has helped me accept the noise to some degree but it’s still so irritating. He has had friends over a bit who have helped him move so I’ve heard his voice so much over the last few days. When we chatted he said people will be over visiting quite a bit so I have a feeling his voice will be a permanent fixture. The walls in this house are thin anyway as we had a family of four next door before and we heard them too.

I don’t know what I can do to mitigate the sound. The rooms that adjoin are the (small) kitchen, stairs, downstairs toilet, upstairs bathroom and the box bedroom. Even in other rooms I can still hear him. I’ve thought about soundproofing in the past but because the layout of the house it just wouldn’t work. For example the sides of the kitchen that adjoin are where the main cupboards, worktop etc are. Will I just get used to this like I have with other neighbours?

I want to save for a detached house but that’s easier said than done right now.

Can you go and speak to him (NICELY YES?) about the issue?

I could do, I feel bad that I think he may possibly have dyspraxia and might not be able to help it 😬

Urgh I feel your pain. I'm at the end of a terrace and have this with one of the guys next door, except it's more his laugh than his voice. He's always bloody laughing...! He's a nice enough guy but I'm starting to really resent him!
Not sure what you can do really sorry!

I have no advise unfortunately (sorry) but wanted to offer my support as we have a neighbor a bit like this. They’re absolutely fine as a person, but they’re SO LOUD, and they have these super loud conversations with family/friends and phone calls OUTSIDE their house late in the evening. They’re not even next door, they’re a few houses up, so even though we live in a detached house, you can hear them talking VERY loudly, almost shouting from outside when they’re on the phone at like 9-10pm. I’ve almost had to go and ask them to quieten down or go and talk inside as I have young children and this wakes them up. I hate confrontation so so far have just dealt with it, but it is annoying 😂

How did it go op? Did you get used to it to some extent?

ArghMyEars · 29/05/2025 09:32

@Teaandchocbiscuits I did get used to it, it's still annoying sometimes but not as jarring as when it first started. Are you having a similar issue?
