An appt was booked today to have something fitted in my house
Something that I had to chase the supplier for a couple of times, when the order would arrive and a fitting date

Half an hour after the time made by them had been and gone, I sent a message.

A reply back informed me that the item was being delivered to them later today and that the fit date would now be (date later this week) at said time. Apologies for not letting me know and hoped this date was ok. It's not, I'm working which I informed them in the reply.

Earlier this week I was offered some work this afternoon which I turned down due to this appointment. I then decided to do the work and as I always have to do when I'm working, turned my phone onto DND.

Just finished the work to find a message from them to say the item was magically to be delivered in the next half hour then they would be round to fit it. An hour later another message to say they were at my door and no-one answered

I replied and said no one answered as I was working.

AIBU by looking for another supplier and fitter or should I give them another chance.

YANBU, I'm sick of being lied to by these unorganised lazy chancers. If you've paid no deposit and have no contract, start again. Or DIY!

This is quite normal for trades.

If you find one who turns up in time and with all the stuff you've found a good un and most people go back to them time and again.

Unfortunately not an item I can either obtain or fit myself so DIY not an option

its tough, trades often run late, forget to message ect as they often do their own admin and book in as many things as possible because of things like lack of parts and dodgy customers.

ive had plumber mates rearrange last minute and to just not turn up for what is a “quick” job. Most annoying but they do a good job while here and i trust them to have the keys to my house while doing bigger jobs like bathroom and kitchen fittings.

could be they had the part but more lucrative work came by, or the part genuinely did just come in so they thought they'd help you out and it backfired as you became unavailable which is completely understandable.

personally im lazy so would go benefit if doubt this time, but you wouldnt be an asshole to cancel.
