Another Mirena one - have you tried again?

First Mirena amazing - was for heavy periods and it stopped them completely. I actually felt my pmt moods were better. However a few weeks in I got vulvovaginitis and ended up
having it removed after about 6 months. Now my iron levels have plummeted and tranexamic acid isn’t cutting it. I feel shattered and depressed.

I want to try again with Mirena. Am I mad? I’m desperate.

I would ask a doctor rather than the masses on here.

@malificent7 I want experiences from other women.

Take Cerazette instead - a pill that does the same thing without the discomfort of a coil.

I had three amazing Mirena's that worked perfectly as you described. Then I had my 4th. Irregular bleeding that dragged on and on. I gave it a year and then the pain began. Coil 4 had dislodged and was sat in my cervix which had to be removed urgently. After the tear to my cervix healed I was encouraged to try another as it was a one off. Coil 5 went in and within 4 months I was in pain and bleeding as it had also dislodged. I gave up at that point and went on the pill.

Like you I'm bleeding too much. 2-3 weeks in duration with unreliable frequency and again I'm being encouraged to have a mirena put in. Absolutely no bloody chance. I'm on the waiting list for a gynae appointment.

@Nowtherave not heard of that - but I’ve never coped well with oral contraceptives

I haven't had the same issues, but I think in your shoes I'd try it again, particularly if you didn't find insertion too bad. It sounds like it was generally good for you apart from the vulvovaginitis. You can always get it removed if having issues again

Thank you. Feeling so desperate

speak to your consultant/GP about the likelihood of vulvovaginitis recurring - what was the cause, can the risk be reduced.
if its likely to recur, only you can make the very personal decision about which option you can cope with best.

I have spoken to her but I really feel like a lot of them are a bit clueless so was hoping for real life experiences.

The mini pill stopped my heavy periods so you could try that instead. It made them lighter for a while and then they just stopped completely and haven't had one for years. (I'm in my 30s).

Nodlikeyouwerelistening · 05/11/2024 19:46

I had light but consistent bleeding for 3 out of 4 weeks every month with cerazette. 1-2 day very light bleeding with Mirena, so no guarantees mini pills and mirena have the same effect.
Changing hormone levels over the years can also have an impact.
