Teen getting laser hair removal

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Tonight my friend told me she takes her 17 year old step-daughter to get fully body laser hair removal, including the bikini area. She said the clinic don't usually do under 18s but it's her friend and they made an exception.
The girl has naturally blonde hair so I can't imagine hair actually is that bothered by hair?

My friend also mentioned the girls mum doesn't know but her dad is fine with it. This family all work in the cosmetics/aesthetics world (dermatology, cosmetic dentist and a nutritionist).
I actually know the girls mum and I doubt she'd be okay with this.

AIBU to think this is inappropriate?

I really don’t think that it’s any of your business.

She is 17, it isn't really anyone's business.
Yes the 'roolz' mean she should be 18 but whatever, in another few months her mother will have zero say in what her daughter does to her body.
For what its worth if my 14 year old daughter wanted it done and I could find somewhere to do it I would take her, or I could very legally buy a Phillips Lumea for her to use!

Weird that you imagine a 17 yo girl's body hair and what it may look like.

Crap that the mum is not part of the conversation but none of your business.

I find it a bit sad she feels that’s necessary. There’s so much pressure to look a certain way.

If she wasn't that bothered by her hair, she would refuse to go, surely. A 17-year-old is capable of making these decisions and should have full autonomy over her body. I am sure nobody is forcing her to do it.

You are assuming a lot of things. That her body hair is fair and wouldn't bother her, and that her mum wouldn't be happy with it. It's nothing to do with you. I have fair hair yet my body hair can be quite thick and dark. She is almost 18. My mum would never have stuck her beak in when i was 17 about my body hair. What's is it with the controlling parents now.

It doesn't work on blonde hair, so there's no point getting her arms and upper thighs done, it'll make no difference. Usually public hair and lower leg hair is dark enough for laser to work, though.

I hate the idea of a 17 year old thinking she should be bald down below though, like a little girl. Sad
