What does your ideal holiday / break look like?

And what do you enjoy doing when you're on holidays?

I'll start. My ideal trip is a city break in a beautiful historic city. I love to stay really centrally & I'm partial to an old world luxurious type hotel, the sort that usually had the word 'grand' in the name.

I like to have breakfast in the hotel but after that I prefer to try out various restaurants/ bars / cafes that I've researched. I.have absolutely no interest in all inclusive.

My ideal day would start with a leisurely breakfast whilst planning our day with dh & dc if with me.

In the morning we'd go to a gallery or a museum or other historical place of interest.

We'd have morning coffee out & about in whatever lovely cafe took our fancy

A stroll through the old town streets stopping off at quirky shops / bookshops etc

Lunch in a nice restaurant with outdoor seating & good people watching. We usually eat light, nice salad & glass of wine.

More exploring after lunch. Perhaps a guided history walk depending on the city. Stepping into churches or cathedrals as we pass them. Stopping for a drink whenever we fancy.

Back to the hotel late afternoon & we'd usually have a lie down for an hour. Then up, showered & dressed for dinner. We'd have reservations for somewhere lovely but we'd have an aperitif in the beautiful hotel bar first.

Stroll to the restaurant. Have a long, leisurely meal with gorgeous wine & lots of courses.

After dinner take a night walk & find a col cocktail bar or a jazz bar & sit chatting till the early hours.

And repeat! I don't think I'd ever get bored doing this..in Paris or Venice or Florebce or Budapest etc

If I won the lotto I'd spend my days reading & exploring all the beautiful cities with the odd jaunt to the coast or mountains to break it up.

Dh would be happy with this too once he had a place to swim, pool or sea or lake he's not fussy but he loves to swim & hate it.

So what does your dream fantasy ideal holiday look like?

I’d go for a similar holiday, throw in some down time and reading.

Much prefer the local restaurants for all inclusive. So much more choice and care over meals.
