To want to love to Acton

My husband and I left London 4 years ago and have decided to move back to the city. Previously lived all London but want to settle West for easy access to M40.

We are quite tempted by houses we've seen in Acton and love the easy commute on the Lizzie line from Acton Main Line into central.

We remember Acton as being not a great area but are thinking this might be remembering it inaccurately?

Do you live in Acton? If so, what do you like and dislike about it? Which part of Acton is the best bit?

Our budget is £900k for a 3 bed house

Thanks so much!

Please don’t call it the Lizzie line, that is so not 😎!

Haha noted!
I used to be cool, I promise!

I live in Chiswick. You’re right - Acton is minging.

Needmorelego · 02/11/2024 16:02

I call it the Lizzy Line. Or just The Lizzy.
What's wrong with that?

Marmitelover24 · 02/11/2024 16:05

Acton is pretty varied. Poets Corner might work for you, as it is probably only 20 mins walk to Acton Main Line on the Elizabeth line. Or south of the high road, towards Chiswick.

Oh poets corner sounds interesting, we love Chiswick... used to live in Kew

We would consider Kew, Chiswick, East
sheen, Mortlake, barnes etc

But Acton is good value for money
Has it really not changed much?

Even Harlesden is better than Acton. It's very boring. But there's about five different train stations, yet nothing to do whatsoever.

PottedPlantCrazy · 02/11/2024 17:09

Avoid Acton. However bad you remember it, it’s worse.

Dishwashersaurous · 02/11/2024 17:14

If an area is significantly cheaper than nearby areas, there's a reason.

There are no bargain areas of west London. The price mechanism is very efficient

Eh? What is everyone on about?
acton really isn’t as bad as some previous posters are making out to be. I’d be interested to know what specific issues people have to be honest, or is just shitty snobbery?
I won’t even address Harlesden > Acton, as if there is some kind of competition between areas in North West London. Harlesden is one of the most deprived areas of London.

It has the same issues as most other areas in London

Churchfield Road has really undergone some change - lots of new cafes and shops, they do a regular street market too I think every quarter
easy access to a40 in and out of central London
Acton high street not great for “mainstream” shops as such but there’s Chiswick/Ealing Broadway/Westfield/Hammersmith not far at all. But lots of polish/arab shops reflecting the diverse community
really lovely library on the high street + swimming pool is huge
there is the artisan cinema ActOne
David Lloyd gym/club
as PP mentioned - so many different tube stations!
lidl/tesco/morrisons/asda all nearby 🤩

I didn’t even like Acton when I moved here but it has really grown on me, it’s really not “minging”.

The top ten most deprived areas in London from Kensington & Chelsea to Hackney

Data shows the wards that are the most deprived including areas that have the highest house prices in the city

I don't think it's that bad? Somewhere near Gunnersbury park would be nice, there are definitely houses in your budget with parking in that area. Though it's probably a bit of a walk from the Elizabeth line station. I think for the poets corner bit you would need more £££.

I am curious to know what you like from that shithole.
