To tip, and therefore how much

So we are in the middle of a two week, 12K bathroom refit. Everything will be new and everything is changing position (the shower will be where the toilet was, the toilet will be where the bath was etc etc.) The whole thing is being handled by a company that’s drawn the plans, supplying the components and organizing the fitters.

And the fitters are machines. They’ve attacked this project like a starving man finding an all-you-can-eat buffet. Thirty minutes after saying ‘the bathroom is that way’ they had the radiator off and started on the tiles.

They turn up on time, they stay late to finish a task and they might have a cup of tea if pressed. Sometimes there are two of them, but most times its just one person doing everything.

So here’s the dilemma. How much to tip them when it's all over? Because we are paying the company, and they pay them, I have no idea what they are getting. Should I tip? And if so, how much?

That's a nice thing to do. Unnecessary but nice. They are likely getting anywhere between £100-150 a day so I would personally tip a day's wage if you can swing it.

I would never dream of tipping bathroom fitters and most people aren't allowed to take tips. If you want to do something nice buy them some chocolate or a crate of beer

Maybe £50 and some beer?
