scared of private number please reassure me

hi lovely folk of mumsnet,

I had an unpleasant experience a few years back and now panic when I see a missed called from a private number. not unknown number but specifically it said private number. I don't mind if it's scammers as I can just hang up I just don't want one particular person to of found my number. please reassure me has anyone had a private number call and it turned out to be a scam or the hospital. wondering who else calls from private numbers so I don't catastrophise and think of the worst case scenario.

Hospital calls all come up as a private number

Most government organisations, some GPs... in all honesty, we can't reassure you because someone getting a hold of your phone number is also plausible. For the record, police can unseal private number calls if you suspect a crime. We had this once when our workplace was inundated with a creep wanting to "book for a blow job" and we swiftly reported the calls to the police who found him in a jiffy despite private number.
Oh, forgot to add, calls from services like Skype also come up with a private number. Nearly missed a call from my granny as assumed it was spam.
