Got trick or treaters today

Came back home and there were two 10 year olds (guessing their ages) followed me from my car bay to front door asking trick or treat. I don't have any Halloween stuff around my home nor do the other nearby properties. I said to them don't waste your time coming around here tomorrow and besides, you are a day early.

They were ten year olds trying their luck, not rotten egg wielding teenagers banging on pensioners doors. Was that response really necessary? Wouldn’t a laugh and a ‘sorry kids, you’re too early’ have done? Or even a ‘no, we don’t take part in Halloween’?
