Watching this at the moment and really confused. The presenter is having a real go at the Tory MP on.
Aren't presenters supposed to be impartial? The other guests who represent other political parties/ interested groups have hardly been able to a word in.
Should presenters be aggressive guests or is their job to allow all the guests to debate?

Laura Trott embarrasses herself every time she's on air - totally out of her depth. The presenters try to put everyone on the line but with Trott it's an open goal every time so hard to resist I imagine.

Edited to say I've seen some clips of them giving Darren Jones a hard time earlier in the show but he was better at responding.

Georgieporgie29 · 30/10/2024 14:54

I saw it more as the presenter getting frustrated because Laura Trott doesn’t seem to know what she’s talking about. Even the experts seemed to be getting frustrated.

I haven't seen the whole debate today but I watch regularly and don't have any concerns about impartiality of presenters Jo Coburn is very fair on guests imo but does challenge people when needed.

I haven't watched this, OP, but my pet hate is long, long, over-involved questions - because the ego-tripping presenter loves the sound of their own voice more than acting on behalf of the viewers to get answers out of public figures.

On a slightly different note - I absolutely hate watching people like Emily Maitliss and that woman off C4 news - Cathy something - because they just reek of ego and self-importance. They've sort of swallowed their own hype.

While I detest Prince Andrew, I can't even bear to watch either of the shows about the infamous interview because I suspect they'll be a huge ego-massage for Emily Maitliss? Ugh.

Out of interest, @CoffeeCantata , are there any male interviewers you find to be egotistical, or is it just women sounding assured you find offensive. Fwiw, you really ought to give the prince Andrew interview a watch. Maitliss did a brilliant job of leading him on precisely by not being overly strident and aggressive. He didn't know what was happening...

I can't listen to The News Agents because I find them all so smug sounding and patronising!

On a separate note I don't know why they try to broadcast from that green beside Parliament. There is so much h background noise it's a farce. It adds nothing to the discourse.
