To take a break between jobs

Hi everyone, I’ve just accepted a job offer with a start date of 1st April next year - appreciate this is way in advance but this is just the way it is in my industry.

I have a 3 month notice period in my existing company and am wondering wether to take between 2-4 weeks off in the middle of the jobs. I dont have enough leave left to cover this as annual leave although could probably take around a week.

My new job is a huge payrise so although I’ll be “unpaid” for a month, I wouldn’t struggle financially. Downside is obviously I’d “lose” a months salary I could otherwise use to pay off some existing debts. I have a little boy who’s in nursery 4 days per week and I’m wondering how I’d even fill my time but the thought of a month to sort the house out and take some “me time” is so appealing!!

What would you do?!

Thank you!

I would, the opportunity probably won't arise again for a long time so as long as you can still pay the bills and have some fun money, go for it!

The pay rise will sort the debts out soon enough and what's the point of all this hard work if you can't enjoy life?

I took a couple of months off before my current job, it was great.

I'd do it when you have the opportunity if you can afford it, it's not like you'd usually be able to.
